Located in Takarazuka, JP

Exquisite contemporary Japanese dimpled decorative porcelain vase, hand painted in vivid blue, green and pink on an elegantly shaped porcelain body against a striking platinum background, a signed piece by highly acclaimed award-winning Japanese master porcelain artist in the Imari-Arita tradition. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain, a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. The artist is the recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and his unique signature gold and platinum work on porcelain. This elegant vase is the perfect canvas for a stunning floral pattern, set against a dimpled platinum background. The artist continues the platinum work to decorate the inside of this magnificent piece. The unfired porcelain shell is impressed with hundreds of dimples, to which gold and platinum are applied at the final stage of production. The dimples are designed to accentuate the luster of the precious metals by varying the thickness of application and allowing the cratering to convey a sense of depth. “Fired-on gold,” his signature style, highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as five-ten firings. This artist's profile is available upon request. This stunning decorative porcelain vase showcases elegant Japanese toad...

Japanese Contemporary Red Blue Green Gold Porcelain Lucky Cat Sculpture, 2

Located in Takarazuka, JP

Exquisite Japanese Contemporary porcelain beckoning cat, a uniquely and intricately gilded and hand painted porcelain sculpture from the Kutani region of Japan. The cat raising his left paw is adorned with multiple golden medallions and is covered with raised loops characteristic of the Kutani “mori” style. While the origins of the Japanese beckoning cat are unclear, contemporary woodblock prints show they were being widely sold as good luck charms by the 1850s. The beckoning cat comes in two varieties. The more common right-handed beckoning cat (with right paw raised) is said to bring money and wealth to its owner, and are to this day frequently seen in shops and restaurants in Japan. The less common left-handed cat is said to be inviting friends and acquaintances to hearth and home. The “mori” style refers to raised loops and other decorative motifs applied by squeezing a tube of slip onto the body of the cat much like applying frosting to a cake. The cat boasts the traditional Kutani colors of bright green, red and yellow presented against an dark blue background, and is generously accentuated with gold. The red kerchief with a knotted amulet in the back and two bells on the side also identify this as a traditional Kutani piece, as do the perked ears turned outward. A stamp indicating it is produced in Kutani region of Japan appears at reverse side of this beckoning cat scultures...

Japanese Contemporary silk brocade Traditional Oshie Handcrafted Decorative Art

Located in Takarazuka, JP

Extraordinary hand crafted Japanese contemporary traditional oshie wall decorative art piece with a stunning three-dimensional effect. This is a centuries-old traditional Japanese handcrafted wall decorative art form using high quality silk and brocade fabrics, known as oshie (literally, “pressed pictures”) that goes back to the Edo period (1603-1868). It is said this art form was born of the reluctance of ladies of the court to discard the magnificent silk kimonos and brocaded obi they had donned for a lifetime. The solution was to recycle these opulent fabrics into stunning works of art. Oshie resembles a carefully crafted very intricate jigsaw puzzle comprising numerous intricate pieces of kimono fabric padded with slightly differing thicknesses of cotton and painstakingly glued and ironed individually. All those tiny pieces are then glued one by one on a custom-made board making sure each piece lands on the exact right place making sure that the right pieces overlap the lower pieces to create an undulating three-dimesional picture. Highly detailed oshie pieces contain hundreds of small pieces that are expertly aligned to recreate even the minutest details of the the painting In the final process. Facial features are painted in miniature-like exactitude. The end product is an awe-inspiring piece with a surprising three-dimensional effect. This magnificent piece depicts a fascinating scene of a lady of privilege wearing an exquisitely brocaded headdress and overcoat to protect herself from the cold. Each dainty step she takes exposes the folds of her multi-layered kimono in a scene reminiscent of the ladies of the ancient imperial court of Japan. The creator of this signed piece has prided herself in using exquisite antique and vintage kimono and obi...

Japanese Three Panel Framed Gold Black White Porcelain Artwork by Master Artist

Japanese Three Panel Framed Gold Black White Porcelain Artwork by Master Artist

Located in Takarazuka, JP

Extraordinary Japanese contemporary three-panel framed porcelain artwork in gold, black and white. This is a masterpiece by a third generation master porcelain artist in the Imari-Arita region of Japan who is the descendant of an extended family of prolific porcelain and ceramic artists. The artist's profile is available upon request. The kiln started in the 19th century with traditional kinrande techniques (gold enameled porcelain), but in accordance with the philosophy of the kiln’s founder, each subsequent generation pioneered in a field of the master’s choosing. Thus, the second generation is known for its yuri-kinsai (gold foil underglaze) and the third generation for its haku-yui (intertwining of precious-metal foils). Yuri-kinsai was termed in the 1950s as a new glazing technique.
