KPM Porcelain Plaque La Gondole d’Amour After Ignace Spiridon

By Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (KPM)

Located in Newark, England

FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING A finely painted KPM porcelain plaque titled La Gondole d’Amour, dating to the late 19th century. The rectangular porcelain panel depicts a romantic gondola scene after the original painting by the Italian artist Ignace Spiridon (1848-1930). At the helm, a winged cherub steers a gondola carrying two lovers across a still river, accompanied by a pair of swans in the background. The work is notable for its soft pastel tones, classical drapery, and idealised figures, consistent with the late Romantic academic style. The porcelain is housed in its original beaded gilt wood frame with a coral mount. The back of the plaque is open to display the impressed KPM sceptre mark and incised numerals, confirming its Berlin manufacture and reference. This is a high-quality KPM Berlin plaque...

White Onyx Polar Bear by Alfred Lyndhurst Pocock Fabergé Sculptor
White Onyx Polar Bear by Alfred Lyndhurst Pocock Fabergé Sculptor

White Onyx Polar Bear by Alfred Lyndhurst Pocock Fabergé Sculptor

By Alfred Lyndhurst Pocock

Located in Newark, England

FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING AN ENGLISH FABERGÉ-LINKED SCULPTOR’S ARCTIC MASTERPIECE IN STONE From our Sculpture Collection, an exceptional early 20th-century white onyx carving of a polar bear by Alfred Lyndhurst Pocock (1882–1962), the only English sculptor known to have worked with the House of Fabergé. The bear is masterfully rendered in motion, its stance caught mid-prowl with a naturalistic sense of power and weight. The finely carved surface is hand-chiselled to simulate fur, while cabochon ruby eyes bring sharp life to the piece. It stands upon a rock crystal base, carved to resemble Arctic ice, echoing Pocock’s focus on geological realism and material harmony. Dated circa 1920, this work reflects Pocock’s independent output following his earlier collaboration with Fabergé, where his animal wax models were translated into hardstone by the firm’s Russian lapidaries. Pieces by Pocock remain extremely scarce and are held in major collections. A museum-quality example of English hard stone sculpture with a direct link to the golden age of Fabergé. PROVENANCE This sculpture was owned by the family of Percy and Winifred Bottley. The Bottleys operated the renowned gem dealership Gregory & Bottley from the 1930s (later known as Gregory, Bottley & Lloyd), and supplied Alfred Lyndhurst Pocock with gemstones for his carvings. Upon Pocock’s death, he bequeathed this piece to the couple as part of his personal collection. LITERATURE Please see the Royal Collection Trust reference RCIN 40268 - Queen Alexandra's Pekingese by Pocock and Fabergé's Animals: A Royal Farm in Miniature for reference to Alfred Lyndhurst Pocock. ALFRED LYNDHURST POCOCK (1881-1962) Worked for the London branch of Fabergé as well as working independently. He won a scholarship to the Royal Academy Schools in 1903 where he studied from 27 January 1903 to January 1906 and began working for Fabergé in 1905. The RA had recommended Pocock when the company’s European manager, Henry Charles Bainbridge needed some wax models of animals for Queen Alexandra, these were sent to Russia for carving in semi-precious stone. The models by Pocock pleased Queen Alexandra and later her royal highness acquired gem carvings from Pocock. According to Bainbridge’s book 'Peter Carl Fabergé: Goldsmith and Jeweller to the Russian Imperial Court - His Life and Work (first published in 1949), Pocock was one of the sculptors who worked at Sandringham in 1907 alongside Boris Frodman-Cluzel and Frank Lutiger on Fabergé items...

Miniature Napoleonic Military Hats Charles Sandré
Miniature Napoleonic Military Hats Charles Sandré

Miniature Napoleonic Military Hats Charles Sandré

Located in Newark, England

FREE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING FIRMLY ATTRIBUTED TO CHARLES SANDRÉ From our Decorative collection, we’re pleased to offer this rare and highly detailed collection of 15 miniature Napoleonic Military hats, confidently attributed to the French artist Charles Sandré. Each model represents a different style of military headgear worn by French regiments in the early 19th century, including shakos, bearskins, corsican and Czapkas helmets, with regimental distinctions carefully recreated in miniature. The hats are presented individually on custom-made steel stands and display a wide range of detail, from cockades and cords to plumes and regimental insignia. Included in the collection are examples from cavalry, infantry, grenadiers, chasseurs and artillery units. Colours, finishes and trimmings reflect the full spectrum of early 19th century French military dress, all worked with a level of precision and charm that has made Sandré’s work widely collected. Charles Sandré worked between 1895 and 1915 and is widely known for producing finely made miniature military figures some of which reside in the entrance hall at the Army Museum in the Hôtel des Invalides, Paris . These models were most likely created during that time or shortly after, with surviving examples now considered rare. Sandré’s work is valued both as decorative military art and as a personal response to historical memory, offering a detailed look at the variety and richness of Napoleonic military dress. The colours of this particular set are well preserved, and each model sits securely on its stand, making the collection ideal for display. A seldom-seen and beautifully presented group, firmly attributed to a unique figure in 19th century military collecting...
