The jewellery box is of rectangular form with a gently domed lid and veneered throughout in burr walnut displaying strong natural figuring across the exterior. The lid is centred by a circular brass vacant initial plaque engraved with a tulip border, repeated to the matching circular escutcheon at the front. Opening the box reveals a fitted interior lined in dark royal blue cushioned velvet with contrasting cream ruched velvet to the lid finished with gold tooling. The inner lid releases to form a drop down compartment accessed via a small tab and latch mechanism, providing additional concealed storage. The removable upper tray is arranged with multiple jewellery partitions together with parallel twin ring or cufflink holders. Designed by René Lalique, the Levrier depicts a streamlined greyhound captured in motion, its elongated body and swept form perfectly suited to the speed and optimism associated with early motoring during the Art Deco period. Introduced in 1928, the model formed part of Lalique’s celebrated series of glass mascots created for mounting to luxury motor car radiators. The mascot is executed in clear and frosted glass with a subtle amethyst hue, enhancing the sculptural modelling across the animal’s musculature and flowing lines. The surface retains the moulded signature R. Lalique alongside France to the lower right, confirming production during Lalique’s original working period. Car mascots of this type were designed to be mounted above an illuminated radiator base. The Vanity Box of rectangular shape with brass edging veneered in exotic Coromandel with a vacant initial plaque. The front and lid of the box feature brass stringing framing the outer perimeter with a barrel shaped escutcheon to the front. The exterior is finished with twin brass handles, one to each side with shaped accents and ball inlays. The interior of the Vanity Box is lined in royal blue velvet with a ruched inner lid containing a rear compartment holding a free standing mirror and storage for letters. The Vanity Box houses fourteen cut glass jars with engine turned sliver gilt Sterling Silver lids with vacant initial plaques to the centre of each jar. The Silver is hallmarked London, Sterling Silver by Charles Rawlings & William Summers and is dated 1846. To the centre of the top tray there is a rectangular removable tool pad containing various vanity tools. The top tray is removable via the two metal loop tabs to each side, located beneath the tray is a second tray with multiple partitions for jewellery, rings and or cufflinks.The second jewellery tray can be removed to access a larger storage area in the base. The rear of the Vanity Box is partitioned and contains five larger glass jars and an extremely rare silver gilt cup with a lined cushion for the glass jar which sits inside. The interior of the box is finished with a Bramah lock signed on the lock plate J.Bramah, 124 Piccadilly. The Vanity Box comes with its original fitted leather case with full leather straps and dates to the middle of the 19th century during latter years of the Victorian period and the reign of Queen Victoria dated 1846.
