Robert McChesney Watercolor Titled "Investigators"

By Robert McChesney 1

Located in Phoenix, AZ

Impressive watercolor by California Abstract Impressionist, Robert McChesney (1913-2008). The painting is in excellent condition and measures 21 x 15 inches. The frame is 31 x 24. A label is seen on the verso with the title: "Investigators," and "From the Okinawa Series #47." Signed lower right. McChesney was a wonderful painter and this work is from his best period in my opinion. Post-War California artist, Robert Pearson McChesney became an Abstract Expressionist painter, assemblage artist, printmaker, sculptor and teacher. He was born in Marshall, Missouri, and with the exception of a year in Mexico, 1951, and World War II military service aboard a ship, he spent his career in California where he moved in 1936. He lived and had his studio north of San Francisco in Petaluma, atop Sonoma Mountain...

Southern Woman Artist Grace Martin Taylor Watercolor - West Palm Beach
Southern Woman Artist Grace Martin Taylor Watercolor - West Palm Beach

Southern Woman Artist Grace Martin Taylor Watercolor - West Palm Beach

Located in Phoenix, AZ

Early Watercolor of West Palm Beach by Southern Woman Artist Grace Martin (Frame) Taylor. The work is in excellent condition and nicely framed under glass. Painting measures 11"h x 14"w. The frame is 19 5/8"h and 22"w. The watercolor is signed and dated lower left and also titled and dated in graphite as well. Grace Martin Frame Taylor (1903-1995), a native of Morgantown, West Virginia, launched a nearly forty-year affiliation with the Mason College of Music and Fine Arts, now part of the University of Charleston in West Virginia. In 1921, Taylor enrolled at the University of West Virginia in her hometown; disappointed by the art curriculum, however, she left after just one year to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She returned to the University of West Virginia in 1924 to finish her bachelor’s degree, selecting English as her major, with an emphasis on journalism; she eventually earned a master’s degree there in 1929. Following her graduation, Taylor went to Provincetown, Massachusetts, and renewed her interest in art under the guidance of her distant cousin Blanche Lazzell. Both Provincetown and Lazzell had gained a significant reputation for a particular kind of color woodblock printmaking known as the white line method. Grace Taylor embraced this approach wholeheartedly; for twenty-eight summers she returned to Provincetown to advance her printmaking skills with Lazzell and Heinrich Pfeiffer. In the ensuing decades, she also studied under Hans Hofmann whom she called her “very favorite modern master.” Taylor traveled to other destinations to further her education. In the late 1930s and early 1940s, she spent time at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh; closer to home, she studied at the Old White Art Colony in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, and took lessons in portraiture in the capital city of Charleston...

Giuliano Tosi Large Italian Sculpture - Glass Head with Red Eye
Giuliano Tosi Large Italian Sculpture - Glass Head with Red Eye

Giuliano Tosi Large Italian Sculpture - Glass Head with Red Eye

Located in Phoenix, AZ

Fascinating Large Italian Glass Sculpture - Face with Red Eye. Incised signature on the base - Giuliano Tosi. Created by the famous Italian glassmaker circa 1970's - 1980's. The work measures 19 ½ inches high and 11 inches across at the widest point. It is in excellent condition with no damage and is quite an eye-catching objet d'art. Master Giuliano Tosi, born in 1942, hails from a lineage steeped in glassmaking tradition dating back to 1483. His journey with glass began at the tender age of 12, under the tutelage of Master Albino Carrara. Recognizing Tosi's burgeoning mastery, Carrara gifted him his corteo, an essential glass-cutting tool, symbolizing a rite of passage and an honor Tosi cherishes to this day. Tosi's expertise extends beyond traditional techniques, evident in his introduction of the external sbruffi technique in furnaces, a method enhancing color vibrancy and variation. His works have graced galleries worldwide, including Milan's Fashion District, Chicago, New York, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, marking him as a significant figure in Murano's glass history over the past six decades. His talent for creating art glass pieces has attracted commissions from luminaries such as the Pope, Julia Roberts, Michael Douglas, and Victoria Adams...

Ralph Love Oil on Canvas of the Grand Canyon - After the Rain

Located in Phoenix, AZ

Oil Painting on canvas by California artist Ralph Love created 1985. Signed and dated lower left. Oil on Canvas in excellent condition and nicely framed. Beautiful rendition of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Measures 24 x 36 inches. Signed, dated and titled on the verso "After the Rain." Frame size: 34 x 46. Ralph Love was born in Los Angeles, California in 1907. He died in 1992 in Escondido, California. For many years, Ralph Love taught as well as painted. On rainy days, his class would meet in the old Art Shack in Temecula, California, which Love opened in the mid-fifties. It was from this Art Shack that his work received national recognition. Ralph Love was perhaps most well-known for painting the Grand Canyon and California landscapes. "Arizona Life" (magazine) featured his work on the cover and on the inside spread, showing several of his original oils. Senator Barry Goldwater owned several of Love's Grand Canyon paintings, and a letter from him stated,"...Love is the finest living American artist I know, and I could look at his work all day long."
