Cristóbal Balenciaga was a revolutionary Spanish designer who founded the revered haute couture house Balenciaga. He opened several boutiques in Spain before moving to Paris in 1937 (he lived and worked in the French capital for three decades). He retired in 1968. In 1986, Jacques Bogart SA acquired the rights to Balenciaga, and Kering purchased the brand in 2001.
