A beautifully preserved early 1800s Chinese export lap desk, crafted with fine attention to both utility and elegance. The slanted surface features its original embossed leather writing surface, framed by rich wood with a warm, time softened patina that speaks to generations of use.
This portable desk opens to reveal four interior compartments designed to hold inkwells and writing instruments, alongside dual sections for stationery. A hidden drawer cleverly concealed in the side adds to its charm and rarity. The drawer itself measures 16" x 8.5" and is one inch deep, offering generous space for papers or small valuables.
The piece retains its original working key, which locks the main compartment, an uncommon and desirable feature.
