Crystal and bronze chest

About the Item

Crystal and bronze chest Empire style chest Crystal and gilded bronze materials Origin France Circa 1920 Excellent condition The Empire style (in French: style Empire) is a dominant artistic style, essentially, in interior decoration, furniture and fashion, which is inserted within the neoclassical movement, and specifically late neoclassicism. It takes its name from the period of Napoleon's rule in France, known as the First French Empire. Despite its name, the style developed before the proclamation of the Empire in 1804, having its point of origin in the military campaigns of Italy (1797) and Egypt (1798). In France, the Empire style is preceded by the Directory style and succeeded by the Restoration style. The Empire style was expressed above all in the redecoration of imperial residences such as the Tuileries, Saint-Cloud, Fontainebleau, La Compiègne or the Grand Trianon, as well as in private residences such as the Malmaison or the Hôtel de Beauharnais.
