This elegant jewellery box from the Boucher & Co Collection was completely handmade in the Boucher & Co workrooms in Toowoomba, Australia. The design of this special piece was inspired by the architecture of the Water Cube, a.k.a. the National Aquatic Centre, Beijing. Australian architects came up with the idea of covering the cube shaped building with bubbles, symbolizing water. That unique structure remains one of the iconic buildings of our age. This box has been created with meticulous attention to detail utilising Shagreen, figured Sycamore, faux Ivory, quarter-sawn North Queensland Silver Ash, Nickel plated brass and leather. The mesmerising lid is made from interlocking hexagonal shaped pieces wrapped in a soft cream coloured Shagreen which beautifully compliments the subtle tones of the figured Sycamore. Convincing shagreen to mould into such tight shapes as these is a truly difficult process to achieve well. It has been used to extraordinary effect in this extremely rare box. A bespoke Nickel Silver knob reflects the same hexagonal shape. The box is polished with a very durable clear satin lacquer, and the interior features a pop of colour with a vibrant orange coloured Italian leather. Underneath the box is a protective leather pad with intricately folded edges. Signed and engraved with the registered number. The Shagreen we use in our products is tanned and dyed using natural pigment. It’s environmentally friendly and created from discarded stingray skins that are neither endangered nor threatened and originally harvested as a food source. Materials used in our products are not included in the list of C.I.T.E.S (Convention International Trade of Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna).
