Art deco lacquer box designed by Wordley Allsopp & Bliss. A beautiful colorful art deco box, created at the 33 East Kinney Street, in Newark New Jersey by the Wordley Allsopp & Bliss Company, back in the 1930. This rectangular box was carefully crafted in solid sterling silver .925/.999 with accents in 14 karats yellow gold. The complete outer parts are embellished with geometric patterns made up in green malachite and black lacquer. The inside are finished with high polish and gilding. Weight: 82.95 Grams, (53.17 Dwt). Measurements: 75 mm by 58 mm by 22 mm (2.95 x 2.28 x 0.87 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark, the assay of the metals and signed, "WAB STERLING & 14K". This piece has been carefully crafted in solid .925/.999 sterling silver with gilt interiors. It is decorated with applications on both sides of vivid red-orange lacquer. This beautiful box was made with cushioned edges and is fitted with an six barrel tension hinge, a push lock and a barrier to storage cards. It is in mint condition with no trace of use or wear and can be easily used as a luxury presentation cards-box. Weight: 65.30 Grams, (41.86 Dwt). Measurements: 55 mm by 68 mm by 9.5 mm (2.16 x 2.68 by 0.39 Inches). The piece displays several interesting characteristics that appear puzzling initially. First, the form is not typical Japanese, but more Chinese and Korean, with its scalloped base. Second, the decoration of MOP inlays also suggests a Korean and Chinese affiliation, especially with the linear borders and the scrolling cloud patters on the sides of the box.
