A fine antique Victorian silver Castle-top vinaigrette, has a waisted bag form, chased foliate scroll decoration on a matted background, the hinged cover with a view of the Crystal Palace great exhibition 1851 the fine silver gilt interior with a pierced and engraved foliate grille, with a chain and ring attachment.

" The Great Exhibition of 1851 was held in London inside an enormous structure of iron and glass known as the Crystal Palace. In five months, from May to October 1851, six million visitors thronged the gigantic trade show, marvelling over the latest technology as well as displays of artefacts from around the world.
The stunning display of inventions, works of art, and objects collected in distant lands was something of a precursor of a World's Fair. In fact, some newspapers referred to it as such. And it had a definite purpose: the rulers of Britain intended to show the world that technology was bringing uplifting changes to society and Britain was leading the race into the future.

19th Century French Rosewood Travel Vanity Case by Peret and Dated 1855

This beautiful antique jewelry box set was crafted in Paris, France, circa 1855. The box was made by Peret, a Parisian goldsmith, cabinetmaker and leather maker. Peret received a first class medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1855 (see engraving on the front). The box has an engraved crest on top with initials and crown, and several dividers inside. The compartments are outfitted with silver accessories, which include one square cut-glass bottle, two round glass bottles with silver tops and one rectangular cut-glass bottle. Inside the first tray, you'll also find two round powder glass containers with silver top, a long glass brush holder (brush included), a smaller rectangular shaving brush glass holder (brush included), all of them with a silver lid ornamented and finely chiseled with scrolls, shells and foliage, and a rectangular glass soap container with silver top. This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver tobacco box has a plain circular rounded form.
The underside of this box has a subtly concave form proffering a comfortable fit in the majority of pockets.
The surface of this antique silver tobacco box is plain and unembellished.
This silver tobacco tin or box retains the original sprung flush hinged hallmarked subtly convex cover, which opens by applying gentle pressure to each side.
The interior of the box retains the original gilding.
This antique Edwardian piece is an exceptional example for its type.

The Great Exhibition of 1851. This very rare Vinaigrette was made for this famous exhibition by Daniel Pettifer in Birmingham in 1850. This piece is broad rectangular in form with serpentine shaped sides engraved with a border of scroll work. The cover is engraved with a detailed view of the Crystal Palace which housed the Great Exhibition of 1851. The base is engraved with different horizontal bands of engine turned designs around a central cartouche engraved with the name Charlotte. The interior displays fine gilding and a pierced and engraved grille decorated with pluming scrolls. The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations or the Great Exhibition, (sometimes referred to as the Crystal Palace Exhibition in reference to the temporary structure in which it was held), was an international exhibition which took place in Hyde Park from 1st May to the 15th October 1851. This antique Scottish sterling silver vesta box has a rectangular form with rounded corners.
The sides of this antique silver box is embellished with impressive bright cut engraved interlacing bands accented with scrolling leaf designs, accented with an applied serrated striker to the posterior side.
The underside of the box is ornamented with interlacing quatrefoil and lozenge shaped motifs, accented with a scrolling leaf decorated background and incorporating a vacant shield shaped cartouche to the centre.
The hallmarked hinged cover features fine and impressive inset agate, hardstone panels segmented with bright cut engraved scrolling leaf decorated borders.
