Cigar Cutter & Vesta Case From our Black Forest collection, we are delighted to offer this very rare and unusual Swiss Black Forest carving of a tobacco jar shaped as a Blacksmiths Anvil complete with secret compartment and secret catch. The Black Forest Anvil stands upon a wooden tree trunk base realistically carved with wood knots. Beside the anvil sits an ebonised decorative carved hammer and a pair of pliers that have a cigar cutter built in between them. When the cigar is placed and cut using the pliers, the cap end falls into a basket through a small chute carved into the side of the trunk. The Anvil at the top of the contains a hidden vesta compartment for storing matches and is accessed via the hidden horse shoe catch in the top of the anvil when turned a quarter the catch releases and the top of the anvil can be removed. To access the tobacco jar in the centre a second secret catch can be pushed to unlock the lid which pivots open. To open the catch a small oval section of the base must be pressed down which releases the spring loaded lid. The hollowed centre contains the original foil lining for storing the tobacco. Antique Moroccan Koran Scroll Talisman Box Amulet Holder Made of Metal Silvered Repousse. Large Berber tribal ethnic talisman pendant storage box with a lovely original patina, a rare, large amulet necklace probably from Morocco. Traditionally the case would have contained a small copy of the Koran or other protective religious verses or written incantations were sealed inside to protect the wearer. In square shape, silvered metal repousse talisman case which stored a miniature Koran or talisman considered to hold special protective powers. This ornate box is a Quran case or carrier and would have originally been worn by someone to protect from the evil eye. Silvered metal box with hanging charms that will makes sounds to push away any bad spirit when moving. As the wearer moves, a soft jingling sound is made by the dangle drops. Noise is thought to drive djinns (evil spirits) away. The front has intricate, dense geometric design, the box opened from the top by sliding a small piece of metal. Two are equipped with slender "hirute"-shaped bail handles and three with decorative pull-rings. The front-and backside featuring oval grips for easy transport. Surmounted by a mirror frame in a shape reminiscent of a Shintô shrine torii-gate- a twin-posted framework with a triangular crossbar flared in upswept Chinese-style gable ( Karahafu) endings.
