The Snuffer tray is of a large rectangular form and displays a raised rim decorated with gadrooning, interspersed with flower heads and Rococo shells, flanked by acanthus foliage. The tray is in excellent condition, very well marked, and is engraved in the centre with a contemporary Crest. The Snuffer scissors are beautifully decorated with foliate scrolls, shell details and gadrooning. The Snuffing box is also engraved with the same Crest, as seen on the tray. This piece also has an unusual mechanism as the steel edged cutter automatically rises and cuts as the handles of the scissors are opened and closed. The Snuffer Scissors are in excellent condition, with the spring mechanism in perfect order. They are well marked in no less than three places. As you will appreciate, these were originally used for Snuffing out candles and trimming their wicks, however it is most unusual to find them with their original trays, all being made in the same year and by the same maker.
