Very Rare Suite of four matching Antique English Geo. III Sheffield Plate round base gadroon border Candlesticks. The gadroon border is reminiscent of those made by one of Sheffield's most illustrious and collected silversmiths, Matthew Boulton. However, these each have the "hand" maker's marks for Padley, Parkin & Co. (Sheffield) or quite possible that of N. Smith & Co. (Sheffield). The early design and style of manufacture is more likely Circa 1790-1810, but the maker's mark appears to be closer to that used by Padley, Parkin, though either is possible. In any event, they are a classic suite of four with removable bobeches and later replaced green baize felt bottoms (which beneath evidences an early Sheffield manufacturing internal process of being pitch loaded around a central iron rod.
