"Lehman Bros. Anniversary Medal, " Art Deco Bronze Paperweight, 1925-1950

About the Item

First sculpted for Lehman Brothers in 1925 for its 75th anniversary -- with the soaring sentiment, "The Well-Being of Men is Forged on the Anvil of Industry" -- this rare 4-inch medal was issued with the same bas relief by Arthur Lee in 1950, for the firm's 100th anniversary. Lee was a Norwegian-American artist who became famous for his beautifully conceived and executed nudes, heavily influenced by the Classic figures of Greece, Rome and the Renaissance. His male and female nudes, such as "Rhythm" and "Volupte," are collected by museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
