Pair of Silver-Plated Frog Salt Cellars with Gilt Interior
Decorative Novelty Tableware, 20th Century
This charming and highly decorative pair of silver-plated frog salt cellars exemplifies the timeless appeal of novelty silver tableware, blending playful sculptural form with refined craftsmanship. Each piece is cast in the form of a finely detailed frog in a crouching pose, its textured body and naturalistic proportions demonstrating excellent modelling and attention to detail.
The open salt bowls are discreetly integrated into the frog’s body and finished with a rich gold-washed (gilt) interior, a traditional feature designed to protect salt from corrosion while adding a luxurious visual contrast to the silver exterior. Compact yet visually striking, these salts are perfectly scaled for elegant table settings while remaining highly decorative objects in their own right.
Equally suited to formal dining tables, curated display cabinets, or as collectible decorative accents, these frog salts bring character, humour, and sophistication to any interior. They work beautifully within traditional, eclectic, maximalist, and contemporary interiors, adding a distinctive touch to a well-styled table or sideboard.
Ideal for collectors of antique and vintage silver, novelty tableware, animal-themed silverware, and luxury dining accessories, this pair would also make an exceptional gift for those who appreciate fine decorative objects with personality.
