About the Item

A substantial and finely crafted sterling silver water pitcher by Gebelein Silversmiths, Boston. This exceptional piece stands approximately 9 inches tall and is of notably heavy gauge silver, reflecting the workshop’s commitment to superior craftsmanship and traditional hand fabrication. The pitcher is designed in the form of a watering can, an elegant and distinctive shape that merges functional simplicity with sculptural presence. The body gently tapers from a broad base to a narrow, elongated spout, which extends gracefully forward in a fluid, organic line. Decorative etched ornamentation encircles both the upper and lower portions of the vessel, as well as the spout, featuring delicate linear and foliate motifs characteristic of early 20th-century Arts & Crafts sensibility. The handle is of plain, oval form—curved and slightly flattened, resembling an ear in profile—providing both comfort and understated refinement. The interior is smoothly finished, suitable for water or beverage service, and the silver exhibits a rich, even patina that accentuates the handcrafted quality of the piece. Marks: Stamped on the underside GEBELEIN / STERLING / BOSTON, confirming authenticity and purity (.925).
