A very nicely decorated Kangxi or Yongzheng Teapot. Rare teapot in the family of Amsterdam Bont. Dating to 1st half of the 18th century Amsterdams Bont A relatively unknown niche of Chinese porcelain from ca 1680-1740 that was partly decorated in Europe. Because mainstream Chinese collectors have yet to discover the historical significance of these wares they are relatively easy to find in Holland. While also being highly interesting and of often super quality and with an amazing array of decorations. Amsterdams Bont is a name given to porcelain partly decorated in the Netherlands (most likely in cities like Delft, Haarlem, Makkum). Because Amsterdam was at this moment in time the trade centre of the western world and also of the porcelain trade a lot of this over enamelling was probably commissioned by Amsterdam merchants, to reap higher profits on otherwise boring Chinese wares. The name Amsterdam Bont probably derives from the fact that these type of decorated ware was sold by Amsterdam Merchants. Vintage ceramic or porcelain small teapot is sculpted in shape of a bird or a phoenix, with large head, long wings, rounded tail, and ornate handle on the back. The teapot features traditional blue on white Chinoiserie decor of abstract graphic motifs; the tail, tips of the wings, beak, plumage, and handle are accentuated with solid blue. The teapot is fitted with small round lid; the open beak serves as a pourer. The teapot is signed on the bottom by the artist or studio; due to the convenient size it can be used either as a milk or syrup pitcher, or as a teapot for one or two people. An exceptional, fine and impressive vintage Chinese sterling silver four piece tea and coffee set with matching tea tray - boxed; an addition to our silver teaware collection. This exceptional vintage Chinese sterling silver tea and coffee service consists of a coffee pot, teapot, cream jug and covered sugar bowl, in addition to a matching tea tray. Each piece of this silver tea service has an oval rounded form with a plain spreading foot. The surface of each piece, including the tea tray is embellished with impressive finely engraved bamboo stalk and foliage decoration, all on a matte background. The teapot and coffee pot are fitted with domed hinged covers ornamented with a continuation of bamboo decoration and surmounted with the original circular rounded finials with satin wood resistors. Each piece of this impressive vintage Chinese silver service is fitted with plain angular C shaped silver handles, with plain tapering thumbpieces to the upper plateau. The coffee pot and cream jug are both fitted with a truncated spout and the teapot bears a plain swan necked spout. The Chinese silver sugar bowl is fitted with an impressive push fit cover, replicating the details of that to the teapot and coffee pot. This exceptional four-piece service sits to the original and matching tea tray. The tray has an oval form with oval inset handles to either end. Each handpiece and the rim of the tray is encompassed with an applied bamboo style border. This exceptional tea service benefits from the original hinged leatherette presentation case, with a satin and velvet lined interior, securing with two hinged latches. Such boxed services with matching trays are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition The pieces of this vintage set are a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The service has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The interior of each piece has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use. The original box has some signs of wear, but can be considered to be in presentation condition. The hallmarks struck to the underside of each piece are all very clear. Each piece of this silver tea set has a square rounded form; the teapot features a cylindrical neck and the cream jug and sugar bowl bear circular tapering upper rims. The surface of each piece is embellished with an impressive planish finish. One side of each piece bears an impressive applied branch bordered cartouche, ornamented with embossed plum blossom illustrations, incorporating perched birds to the branches. The other side features an incurved shaped panel ornamented with an iconic oriental undulating dragon design, emanating from cloud motifs. This exceptional antique tea set/service, in Chinese Export Silver consists of a teapot, cream jug and covered sugar bowl. Each piece of this tea service has a circular compressed rounded form. The surface of each piece is embellished with fine and impressive applied bamboo stalk, chrysanthemum and iris designs. The upper collet style rim of each piece is plain and unembellished. The teapot and sugar bowl are fitted with the original covers surmounted with cast silver finials modelled in the form of a bamboo stalk; the cover to the teapot is hinged. Each cover is embellished with an applied splay of bamboo leaves. This Chinese silver teapot is fitted with a C shaped handle and swan necked spout, influenced with further bamboo ornamentation. The sugar bowl and cream jug are fitted with silver handles reflecting that of the teapot, incorporating a subtly scrolling lower terminal. The interior of the cream jug and sugar bowl retain the original gilded interiors.
