Hand pieced from an assortment of silk velvets, silk satins, plush velvets, ribbons, novelty textiles, and fine cottons, every seam is lavishly embellished with hand embroidery, including feather stitch, herringbone, Cretan stitch, crossed stitches, buttonhole variations, spider-web motifs, floral sprays, and countless other decorative stitches.. Sequins, chenille, applied velvet medallions, and dimensional embroidery add further texture. The luxurious fabrics remain remarkably vibrant, displaying rich jewel tones of sapphire blue, ruby red, emerald green, amethyst, gold, ivory, black, and fuchsia. The variety of textiles reflects the Victorian custom of preserving treasured remnants from fashionable garments and household fabrics, transforming them into works of decorative art. Unlike traditional patchwork quilts designed primarily for warmth, crazy quilts celebrated artistic expression rather than geometric precision.
