Copper San Francisco 49er's Sign with Embossed Image of the Their Early Logo
Located in Petaluma, CA
Well, of course living in San Francisco as we do, we occasionally run into interesting collectibles from our local sport's teams. This sign is something we have never seen, and as we asked around, nobody we knew had ever seen it. This logo of the happy shoot'em up cowboy was used as their very first when they joined the NFL in 1946. The sign also bears the embossed logo of the NFL at the bottom right corner. This logo was eliminated in 1967, at the suggestion of the league. The guns image probably wasn't in the best interest of the league.
This was too high of a quality item to be sold at games. Besides being all copper, and having the original walnut frame, this couldn't have been a cheap item to produce. We were very much taken by the great whimsical image and the quality. Whether a San Francisco 49er fan or not, this is just a great sports collectible...
