Pair of Large Moroccan Moorish Glass and Filigree Hanging Lanterns
Pair of Large Moroccan Moorish Glass and Filigree Hanging Lanterns

Pair of Large Moroccan Moorish Glass and Filigree Hanging Lanterns

Located in Moreno Valley, CA

An impressive matching pair of large vintage Moroccan hanging lanterns, handcrafted in Marrakech during the 1980s and distinguished by their exceptional scale, intricate pierced-metal decoration and clear glass construction. Measuring approximately 40 inches high before the chains are added, these architectural light fixtures bring the atmosphere of a Moroccan riad, Moorish palace or Andalusian courtyard into a sophisticated contemporary interior. Each lantern is constructed around a faceted metal framework inset with clear glass panels. The transparent glass allows the internal candle-form lights to remain visible while emphasizing the lantern’s elaborate silhouette. Narrow pierced-metal panels alternate with the glass, creating layered geometric patterns inspired by traditional Islamic architecture and Moroccan decorative arts. The main body has a broad polygonal form framed by gently angled glass panels. Above, an elongated pierced-metal crown rises toward the suspension ring, while the lower section terminates in a sculptural bulbous pierced-metal finial. Dense openwork decoration continues across the upper and lower portions, giving the lanterns visual interest from every angle. When illuminated, the pierced patterns cast delicate shadows across the surrounding walls and ceiling. The metal has a deep bronze-colored finish with subtle tonal variation and an aged appearance. This description refers to the color and finish; the fixtures are constructed from metal and are not being represented as solid bronze. Their dark patinated surfaces provide an elegant contrast to the clear glass and complement Spanish Colonial, Moroccan, Moorish, Mediterranean, Islamic, North African and contemporary interiors. Each lantern has been rewired in the United States with three candelabra-base sockets, providing six lights across the pair. Matching chains and ceiling canopy plates are included and will coordinate with the original bronze-tone finish. Chain length can be adjusted according to ceiling height and the desired overall drop. Professional installation by a licensed electrician is recommended. Bulbs are not included. Each lantern body measures approximately 40 inches high by 18 inches in diameter, excluding its suspension chain and ceiling canopy. The final installed height will depend upon the selected chain length. Their substantial proportions make them particularly well suited to a high-ceilinged entrance hall, long dining room, grand staircase, covered interior courtyard, boutique hotel or Mediterranean-style residence. Handcrafted in Marrakech, Morocco, circa 1980s. Maker unknown. Materials include clear glass and hand-worked pierced metal with a bronze-color finish. Sold as a matching pair. Presented in good vintage condition with wear, patina and minor surface variations consistent with age, use and traditional artisanal construction. The electrical systems have been updated in the United States. Slight irregularities in the metalwork and glass placement reflect their handmade character. A dramatic pair of vintage Moroccan lanterns offering both functional illumination and sculptural presence. Relevant search terms incorporated into this description include Moroccan hanging lanterns, Moorish glass chandeliers, pierced-metal pendant lights, Islamic lighting, Marrakech lanterns, Spanish Revival lighting, Mediterranean chandeliers...

Vintage Moroccan Moorish Clear Glass Pierced Metal Lantern Chandelier, 1980s
Vintage Moroccan Moorish Clear Glass Pierced Metal Lantern Chandelier, 1980s

Vintage Moroccan Moorish Clear Glass Pierced Metal Lantern Chandelier, 1980s

Located in Moreno Valley, CA

A striking vintage Moroccan Moorish lantern chandelier, handcrafted in Marrakech, Morocco, circa 1980. Monumental in presence yet remarkably refined in its detailing, this sculptural hanging light combines clear glass with intricately pierced and hand-worked metal in a warm aged bronze-tone finish. The elaborate silhouette and exceptional metalwork give the chandelier the architectural presence associated with traditional Moroccan palace and riad lighting. The fixture is constructed around a dramatic faceted lantern body framed by clear glass panels. Each section is defined by slender metalwork and surrounded by finely pierced decorative panels incorporating repeating Moorish geometric and arabesque-inspired motifs. Above the glass body, the chandelier rises into an elegant flared pierced-metal crown, while the lower section terminates in a beautifully shaped bulbous pierced-metal element and delicate finial. The combination creates an unusually graceful vertical profile from every angle. One of the most appealing qualities of this chandelier is the relationship between transparency and ornament. The clear glass keeps the substantial fixture visually light, allowing the interior four-light candelabra cluster to remain visible, while the pierced metal creates intricate patterns of light and shadow across surrounding walls and ceilings when illuminated. The aged bronze-colored surface adds warmth and depth without overpowering the delicacy of the openwork construction. Handcrafted by Moroccan artisans, the chandelier displays the subtle irregularities and individual character associated with traditional hand fabrication rather than modern machine production. Its sophisticated combination of geometric architecture, pierced metalwork and clear glass makes it equally successful in traditional Moorish surroundings or as a dramatic counterpoint within a contemporary interior. With a substantial 40-inch-high body and 18-inch diameter, this is an impressive architectural light fixture ideally suited to a high-ceilinged entry hall, stairwell, gallery, dining room, library, bedroom or dressing room. It would also make a particularly striking statement in a luxurious bathroom suspended above a freestanding bathtub, where the clear glass and pierced metalwork can be appreciated from multiple viewpoints. A related Moroccan light fixture supplied by Mosaik was used in a bathroom at Madonna's former Hollywood Hills residence, as illustrated in one of the listing photographs. This image is included as an installation reference demonstrating how this style of Moroccan lighting can function within a sophisticated residential interior; it should not be interpreted as provenance for this individual chandelier. The chandelier has been restored and professionally rewired for U.S. use with a cluster of four candelabra-base lights. The suspension chain can be adjusted according to the ceiling height and desired installation. An exceptional vintage Moroccan lighting piece combining decorative craftsmanship, architectural scale and the atmospheric quality of traditional Marrakech interiors. Dimensions: chandelier body 40 in. H × 18 in. diameter. without the chains Origin: Marrakech, Morocco. Date: circa 1980. Condition Good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. Restored and rewired for U.S. use with four candelabra-base sockets. The aged bronze-tone metal surface displays expected variations and minor surface wear consistent with vintage handcrafted construction. Clear glass panels show minor signs of age and use. Moroccan Moorish Granada Clear Glass Bronze Lantern Pendant, Marrakech 1990s
Moroccan Moorish Granada Clear Glass Bronze Lantern Pendant, Marrakech 1990s

Moroccan Moorish Granada Clear Glass Bronze Lantern Pendant, Marrakech 1990s

Located in Moreno Valley, CA

An exceptionally architectural Moroccan Moorish Granada pendant lantern, handcrafted in Marrakech, Morocco, circa 1980. This smaller-scale version of the classic Granada lantern combines intricate metalwork with multiple tiers of faceted clear glass, creating a jewel-like hanging fixture with remarkable visual depth and presence. The lantern measures 23 inches high by 14 inches in diameter, making it particularly versatile for spaces where a monumental Moroccan chandelier would be overwhelming. Its compact proportions work beautifully in an entry, powder room, dressing room, bedroom, hallway, kitchen, covered loggia or as a series of pendants installed above an island or along a corridor. The elaborate silhouette is constructed through eleven distinct architectural levels, each incorporating angular metal framing and multifaceted clear glass panels. The succession of projecting and recessed tiers gives the lantern its distinctive Granada-inspired profile, recalling the geometric architecture and ornamental vocabulary associated with Moorish and Andalusian design. When illuminated, the numerous clear glass surfaces catch and reflect the light from different angles, giving the fixture a luminous, almost diamond-like quality. Unlike colored Moroccan lanterns, the use of clear glass gives this example a sophisticated neutrality that allows it to integrate easily into Mediterranean, Spanish Colonial, Moorish, Moroccan, Islamic, eclectic and contemporary interiors. The metal framework has a warm dark bronze-tone finish with naturally aged patina, complementing the transparency of the glass and emphasizing the lantern's complex geometry. Each fixture was individually handcrafted by artisans in Marrakech using traditional metalworking and lantern-making techniques, and subtle irregularities are characteristic of handmade Moroccan craftsmanship rather than machine production. A discreet hinged access panel allows the interior bulbs to be changed without dismantling the fixture. The lantern has been restored and rewired for American use with an interior cluster accommodating three candelabra-style bulbs. Hanging chain and ceiling canopy are included, and the chain length can be adjusted or additional chain supplied according to the installation requirements and ceiling height. The fixture is intended for indoor use or a protected covered area and should not be directly exposed to rain or severe weather. Multiple examples are available, making this model particularly attractive for designers requiring a coordinated series of Moroccan lanterns for a hallway, covered arcade, staircase, kitchen, hospitality project or Mediterranean-style residence. Presented in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and handcrafted construction. There is some natural patina and oxidation to the metal as well as minor scratches and irregularities to the glass. A highly decorative yet remarkably versatile Marrakech-made Moroccan lantern, combining traditional Moorish craftsmanship with a sophisticated architectural form and jewel-like clear glass. Vintage Moroccan Moorish Multicolor Glass & Pierced Metal Hanging Lantern, 1980s

Vintage Moroccan Moorish Multicolor Glass & Pierced Metal Hanging Lantern, 1980s

Located in Moreno Valley, CA

A beautifully handcrafted vintage Moroccan Moorish lantern featuring jewel-toned multicolor glass set within an intricately pierced metal framework. Made by skilled artisans in Marrakech, Morocco, circa 1980, this decorative lantern combines traditional Moroccan metalworking with amber, emerald green, lavender, cobalt and pale blue glass to create a richly atmospheric piece of North African lighting. The lantern has a distinctive faceted geometric form, measuring 18 inches high overall and 8.5 inches wide and deep. Its architectural silhouette is composed of multiple angled sections, with colored and textured glass panels alternating with pierced metalwork. The upper and lower sections are particularly attractive, featuring openwork geometric Moorish patterns designed to allow light to escape through the metalwork. When illuminated from within, the combination of translucent colored glass and pierced metal can produce a warm jewel-like glow while projecting subtle patterns of light and shadow onto nearby walls and ceilings. The effect is characteristic of traditional Moroccan lighting and makes the lantern especially appealing for interiors where atmospheric illumination is important. A small hinged door provides access to the interior. The lantern is currently not wired for electricity. It may be displayed with an appropriate candle or LED candle, or professionally wired for electrical use by a qualified electrician in accordance with local requirements. The upper hanging loop allows the piece to be suspended as a Moroccan pendant lantern or decorative hanging light. Its relatively compact scale also makes it particularly versatile for an entryway, powder room, bedroom, reading alcove or grouped installation. It can also be incorporated into a wall-mounted installation with suitable professional hardware. The combination of aged metal and colored glass gives the lantern the collected character particularly desirable in Moroccan, Moorish, Mediterranean, Spanish Colonial and eclectic interiors. It also provides a strong artisanal counterpoint within contemporary spaces, where its sculptural geometry and jewel-toned glass can function almost as a suspended decorative object. Handcrafted in Marrakech, Morocco, circa 1980. Dimensions: Overall height from upper loop through lower finial: 18 in. Width: 8.5 in. Depth: 8.5 in. Lantern body / glass shade: approximately 12 in. Large Moroccan Moorish Pierced Brass Pasha Chandelier, Alberto Pinto Style
Large Moroccan Moorish Pierced Brass Pasha Chandelier, Alberto Pinto Style

Large Moroccan Moorish Pierced Brass Pasha Chandelier, Alberto Pinto Style

By Alberto Pinto

Located in Moreno Valley, CA

An impressive large-scale Moroccan Moorish pierced brass Pasha chandelier, handcrafted in Marrakech and inspired by the sumptuous Orientalist interiors associated with Alberto Pinto and other great 20th-century decorators. Two matching chandeliers are available, offering a rare opportunity for a symmetrical installation in a large dining room, gallery or double-height interior.” Measuring 33 inches in diameter, this dramatic chandelier has a broad, architectural silhouette reminiscent of an inverted crown or ceremonial Moroccan basin. Its generous proportions, elaborate metalwork and warm golden surface give it considerable presence whether illuminated or viewed simply as a sculptural decorative object. The chandelier is constructed from polished brass that has been meticulously hand-hammered, chased, pierced and worked in repoussé by Moroccan artisans. Thousands of small perforations form intricate arabesque and foliate patterns across the radiating panels, transforming the metal surface into delicate lace-like openwork. When illuminated, light filters through these pierced patterns, creating the atmospheric play of light and shadow for which traditional Moroccan lighting is celebrated. The upper perimeter is particularly elaborate, finished with a series of tall pierced palmette and arabesque cresting elements. These ornamental flourishes give the chandelier its distinctive Pasha-like grandeur and reinforce its connection to historic Moorish and Islamic architectural ornament. Set throughout the brass body are decorative milky-white hand-blown glass cabochons and elongated glass inserts. Their softly translucent surfaces contrast beautifully with the polished golden brass and become luminous accents when the chandelier is switched on. The lower portion terminates in a deeply modeled, pierced brass finial, completing the chandelier's symmetrical sculptural profile. Handcrafted in Marrakech, Morocco, circa 1980s, the chandelier represents the highly skilled metalworking traditions for which Moroccan decorative lighting is renowned. Each pierced opening and chased detail was individually worked, giving the fixture the subtle variations characteristic of artisan-made objects. The chandelier measures 32 inches high including the existing three-chain suspension × 33 inches in diameter. The decorative brass shade/body itself measures approximately 20 inches high. Additional chain can be supplied or added as required to accommodate different ceiling heights. The fixture has been rewired for use in the United States and is ready for professional installation. Its substantial 33-inch diameter makes it particularly suitable above a round dining table, in an entry hall, library, salon, bedroom or beneath a high ceiling. It would be equally compelling in a Mediterranean, Moorish, Spanish Colonial, Moroccan, Orientalist or sophisticated contemporary interior. Two chandeliers are currently available. The listed price is for one chandelier. Used as a pair, they would be especially effective in a long gallery, large dining room, double-height entrance or symmetrical architectural installation. A highly decorative example of Moroccan Islamic metalwork, combining pierced brass, repoussé decoration, hand-blown glass and the theatrical scale associated with luxurious Orientalist interiors. Dimensions: 32 in H × 33 in diameter Body / Shade Height: approximately 20 in Quantity Available: 2 Sold As: Individually — price is for one Style: Moorish / Islamic / Moroccan In the Style of: Alberto Pinto — not attributed to Alberto Pinto Materials: Brass, hand-blown glass Techniques: Hand-crafted, hand-hammered, hand-chased, pierced, repoussé, polished Place of Origin: Morocco City: Marrakech Period: Late 20th Century Date: circa 1980s Power Source: Hardwired Voltage: 110–150V Electrical: Rewired for U.S. use Condition: Good vintage condition; wear and patina consistent with age and handcrafted production.
