Oak core veneered with rosewood and palm wood marquetry, topped with a white Carrara marble slab, gilded bronze fittings. Provenance: Private collection, Wallonia, Belgium This chest of drawers was almost certainly made in the workshop of Matthijs Horrix in The Hague. Horrix, originally from Germany, settled in The Hague in the 1760s, where he specialized in making furniture in the French style. His workshop was probably the most important in the third quarter of the 18th century in the court city and was well known far beyond the city limits.
