Australian Aboriginal Painting by Mabel Juli, Warmun Art Centre
By Mabel Juli
Located in Somerton, GB
A beautiful natural pigment painting on canvas by renowned Aboriginal painter Mabel Juli. This piece is a dreaming story. Glingennayn is the name of the Ngarranggarni (Dreaming ) rainbow. In the Ngarranggarni the rainbow was a man. As he climbed this hill, Glingennayn heard a dog barking and turned his head around to see where the dog was. He is still there on that hill, looking for the dog. The texture created by the natural earth pigment is typical of the ancient heritage of this remarkable art movement. Mabel Juli is one of the most dedicated and iconic of all Warmun artists. Her seniority and status as one of Australia’s most revered painters has emerged from a consistent and growing body of work characterized by bold yet simple compositions that are informed by nuanced and detailed stories passed onto Mabel from her family. Mabel Juli was born at Five Mile, near Moola Boola Station (south of Warmun), and was taken as a baby to Springvale Station, her mother's country. Mabel's' bush name' is Wiringgoon. She is a strong Law and Culture woman and an important ceremonial singer and dancer. Juli started painting in the 1980s, at the same time as well-known Warmun artists Queenie McKenzie and Madigan Thomas. The women used to watch Rover Thomas...

Large Australian Aboriginal Painting by Mabel Juli
Located in Atlanta, GA
A striking large painting by Australian Aboriginal artist Mabel Juli (b. 1931) circa 1990s. This large abstract landscape painting on the dreamscape of the Western Australian Desert was boldly executed with several shades of earth pigments. The contrast of their colors, the granule textures of the surface and the abstract composition made it visually arresting. Provenance: inscribed verso: "Warmun Art Centre, Mabel Juli 409/08 " Paper label affixed from "Gallery Gabrielle Pizzi Gallery, Melbourn, Australia", where the painting was originally purchased prior to 2004. Mabel Juli started painting in 1980s at the Warmun Art Centre, encouraged by artists Rover Thomas...

Aboriginal Painting 'Tingari Dreaming' by Ronnie Tjampitjinpa (1943-)
Located in NICE, FR
ABOUT THE WORK "RETINGARI DREAMING" The migration of the ancestors is depicted through interlocking squares in this artwork. These symbolic motifs narrate the journeys of the Tingari ancestors, who sculpted the terrains in the desert, infusing them with life. The subdued, warm tones evoke the ochre hues of the desert and the hills of Kintore, the community from which the artist hails. ABOUT RONNIE TJAMPITJINPA Ronnie Tjampitjinpa was born in 1943 in an almost uncharted region near Muyinga, Australia. He commenced painting only in the 1980s. Starting in 1970, he ardently advocated for Aboriginal rights, particularly for their return to their ancestral lands. Having played a significant political role, he chose to retire to his homeland in 2002, dedicating himself solely to painting. Often working in solitude, he isolates himself for several weeks in the desert to rejuvenate. Ronnie Tjampitjinpa's distinctive style is easily recognizable. The geometrical elements in his paintings captivate the viewer and reflect a territorial representation unique to Pintupi art, a region he traversed during his youth. His themes are diverse, encompassing Water Dreams, Fire Dreams, and a particular affinity for the Tingari cycles. Ronnie Tjampitjinpa stands as a prominent figure in contemporary Aboriginal art in Australia. He was listed as one of the "50 Most Collectable Australian Artists" by the Australian Art Collector Magazine in both 2001 and 2009. Awards received by the artist: 2004 - Finalist, 21st Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award, Darwin (Australia) 1995 - Highly commended recognition at the 20th Annual Fremantle Print Award (Australia) 1988 - Alice Springs Art...

Aboriginal Painting of 'Embers of Spinifex Tradition' by Paddy Sims Japaljarri
Located in NICE, FR
ABOUT THE ARTWORK: This Aboriginal painting shows traditional practices associated with the burning of areas of Spinifex country. The fires are lit so that liwirringki (burrowing skinks), lizards and small mammals are driven from their burrows and hiding places. This allows them to hunt them more easily and also promotes the fertility of the land. This ancient practice has been practised for thousands of years by the Aborigines of Australia. In this work, Paddy Sims Japaljarri, who is one of the eminent initiates of his clan, also evokes the male ceremonies of homage to the ancestors performed by these nomads steeped in spirituality in the central Australian desert. The painting comes from Warlukurlangu Art Center. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Paddy Japaljarri Sims was born in 1917. He is married to Bessie Sims Nakamarra, also a well-known artist and important initiate in his community. He was one of the first generations of aboriginal artists at the origin of the pictorial movement in Yuendumu and saw his fame become international during his trip to Paris in 1989 when he was invited to present his works on the occasion of the famous exhibition "The Magicians of the Earth" at the Georges Pompidou center. In 2000, he engraved with Paddy Stewart 30 plates from which we were going to make small-format engravings: it was with this very special work that the two men won the prize in the “best work on paper” category at the prestigious Testra Award. An essential artist and presented today as one of the founding representatives of contemporary Aboriginal painting, his works are present in all the major Australian public collections as well as at the Jacques Chirac Museum in Paris. Awards received by this artist: 2001. Awards, Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Awards, Darwin (Australia) Her works are present in many collections: Araluen Arts Center, Alice Springs (Australia) Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney (Australia) Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth (Australia) Australian National Gallery, Canberra (Australia) Australian Museum, Sydney (Australia) Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide (Australia) Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth (Australia) Art Gallery and Museums, Glasgow, Scotland (Scotland) Donald Kahn Collection (United States) Flinders University Art Museum, Adelaide (Australia) Gordon Darling Foundation, Canberra (Australia) Queensland University of Technology Art...
