Antique Folding Silver Plated Shell Biscuit Box Victorian Table Centrepiece

Located in Wembley, GB

Antique Victorian Silver-Plated Folding Biscuit Box, Shell Form, Sheffield, c. 1890 This exceptional antique Victorian silver-plated folding biscuit box is a rare and highly decorative example of late 19th-century English silverplate, crafted in Sheffield, circa 1890. Designed in an elegant shell form, the piece exemplifies the Victorian fascination with naturalistic motifs, sculptural metalwork, and refined domestic luxury. The shell-shaped body sits within a beautifully cast and chased frame, supported by richly detailed branch-form uprights—a hallmark of high-quality Victorian decorative silverware. The surface displays a soft, luminous silver patina, enhancing the sculptural curves and organic detailing while preserving its authentic antique character. One of the most remarkable features of this piece is its ingenious folding mechanism. The box opens smoothly into two symmetrical halves, revealing its original hand-pierced interior dividers, meticulously crafted to separate biscuits, sweets, or confections. When closed, the box is secured by exquisite laurel wreath loose-ring handles, a classical Victorian motif symbolising elegance, achievement, and refinement. Both functional and ornamental, this silver-plated container works beautifully as a biscuit box, sweet box, trinket holder, or tabletop centrepiece. It makes a striking statement on a dining table, sideboard, console, or display cabinet, and transitions effortlessly between traditional, eclectic, maximalist, and curated contemporary interiors. Whether styled in a formal dining setting or as a decorative accent, it brings undeniable presence, craftsmanship, and historical depth. Origin: Sheffield, England Period: Victorian, circa 1890 Material: Silver-plated metal Technique: Cast, chased, hand-pierced interior Design & Decorative Appeal Sculptural shell-shaped body Elaborate branch-form supports Original hand-pierced silver-plated dividers Elegant folding opening mechanism Laurel wreath loose-ring handles Strong Victorian naturalist and neoclassical influence This piece embodies the finest traditions of Sheffield silverplate, combining ornamental richness with intelligent design—qualities that make it especially desirable to collectors and interior designers alike. Dimensions (cm) Height: 27 cm Width: 22 cm Depth: 15 cm Condition Excellent antique condition, with light age-appropriate wear consistent with use and period. The structure, mechanism, and interior dividers remain intact and fully functional. Please refer to photographs for a detailed condition assessment. Styling & Interior Use Perfect for: Luxury dining room décor Antique and period interiors Decorative sideboards and consoles Display cabinets and curio collections Traditional, Victorian, Edwardian, and eclectic homes An outstanding accent piece for collectors of Victorian silverware, Sheffield silverplate, and 19th-century decorative table objects. Antique Victorian silver biscuit box, Sheffield silverplate, Fenton Brothers silver, folding biscuit box, Victorian silver container, antique silver sweet box, decorative silver tableware, shell-form silver box, 19th-century English silverplate, Victorian table centrepiece, antique silver trinket box, luxury interior décor object, collectible English antiques, ornate silver box, Victorian dining accessories, antique silver display piece, gallery silver décor, heritage silverware, luxury home accessories Antique Silver-Plated Revolving Biscuit Box – Ornate Shell Form Double Server A striking and highly decorative antique silver-plated revolving biscuit box, exquisitely crafted in a refined Victorian style. This exceptional piece features a beautifully sculpted shell-form double compartment, elegantly mounted within an ornate swing frame stand, allowing the compartments to open gracefully with a smooth revolving action. The body is richly detailed with fluted shell patterns, symbolising classic European elegance, while the interior reveals delicate pierced openwork panels—both functional and decorative, enhancing airflow and visual sophistication. The framework is adorned with scrolling acanthus motifs, floral accents, and a central ring handle, making it as sculptural as it is practical. Raised on finely cast supports with intricate detailing, this piece embodies the luxury of antique silver tableware, ideal for serving biscuits, sweets, or as a statement centrepiece in refined interiors. Its brilliant mirror-polished finish and excellent condition make it a highly desirable addition for collectors of antique silver plate, Victorian serving ware, and decorative objects.
