Moroccan huge antique doors from a Ryad in Fez, amazing hand painted artwork. Multicolored geometrical Moorish designs in deep red, green, yellow. Moroccan doors and furniture is most noted for the use of beautiful Moorish hand-painted and hand carved designs colorfully applied to wood. Oversized Vintage Moroccan Tuareg Mat, with Geometric Stripes, from Rug & Kilim

Located in Long Island City, NY

This vintage Moroccan floor covering is a 12x17 Tuareg mat from the nomadic tribe of the same name. Handwoven with reeds and leather circa 1950-1960, its natural materials enjoy warm brown, beige and red tones in its geometric patterns. On the Design: Connoisseurs will admire Tuareg mats as distinct works with their own rich history and unique, masterful craftsmanship. This design is also one of few in its kind to favor a minimalist approach to the primitivist Berber geometric patterns. The large size further connotes a particularly intricate work—likely made by two or more weavers with meticulous detail. It’s as much a collectible piece of folk art and nomadic culture as a comfortable, durable floor covering today. Condition: This vintage Moroccan Tuareg mat...

Very Fine and Large Orientalist Oil on Canvas Titled "Ashura Rituals, Tangier"

Very Fine and Large Orientalist Oil on Canvas Titled "Ashura Rituals, Tangier"

By Gordon B. Coutts 1

Located in Los Angeles, CA

Gordon B. Coutts (Scottish/American, 1868-1937) A very fine and large orientalist oil on canvas titled "Ashura Rituals, Tangier" (Arabic: عاشوراء‎ ʻĀshūrā’ - Urdu: عاشورا‎ - Persian: عاشورا‎ - Turkish: Aşure Günü). Signed and inscribed: 'Gordon Coutts/TANGIER' (lower right), circa 1920. Provenance: The Fisher Art Museum, University of Southern California. Gordon Coutts led a peripatetic career, born in Aberdeen, Scotland, he then studied and travelled to Glasgow, London, Paris and Rome before settling in Melbourne, Australia in 1891. In 1896 he moved to Sydney, where he taught at the Art Society of New South Wales, before returning back to Europe in 1899. With the climate of northern Europe detrimental to Coutts' poor health, he moved with his wife, Alice Grey, to the United States where he became a frequent exhibitor at the Bohemian Club in San Francisco. In 1920 he travelled to Tangiers, Morocco where, dressed as an Arab, he passed from tribe to tribe observing the lifestyle, customs and practices of the the village people and Bedouins. The present work depicts the celebration of Ashura. The day of Ashura is commemorated by Shi'ite Muslims; "A day of pain, pilgrimage and pageantry, it is one of the holiest in their religion. The word Ashura means 10, and refers to the tenth day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar. This is a period of mourning and cleansing, which marks the martyrdom of Hussein, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad...

Vintage Moroccan Tamgroute Green Olive Jar with Handles
Vintage Moroccan Tamgroute Green Olive Jar with Handles

Vintage Moroccan Tamgroute Green Olive Jar with Handles

By Berber Tribes of Morocco

Located in Moreno Valley, CA

Moroccan Tamgroute vintage, 1960's green olive jar with handles, or planter. Handcrafted by the Berber people in Tamgroute Morocco. Great glazed earthenware with different hues of green and black. A pair is available, slightly different glaze Top diameter is 10" inside opening is 7" D. Jar is 38" H x 20" D in the widest part. Wonderful green and brown shimmering that can be found only in south Morocco in the village of Tamgroute. The color and texture is a result of the particular alchemy created by the potters of Tamegroute and remains a family affair handed down through the generations. Each pottery piece is completely unique and no two are ever the same. Please note that the traditional method in which the plates are fired involves stacking which result in tiny ‘scars’ inside the plate and in the glaze making, each bowl is unique the beauty is found in the imperfection of each piece. Tamegroute pottery are true showpieces showing that even imperfect can be perfect. Tamegroute remains the only rural pottery in Morocco using oxidized copper which creates its famous green color. Its potteries are also the only location where you will find their unique forms. The process however remains much the same. Clay is dug up from the local Draa river banks, thrown by hand & fired inkilns built into steep slopes using a single firing. Vintage green glazed pottery...
