French Beech and Patinated Cognac Leather Armchair in the Style of Maison Regain, 1970s A striking French armchair from the 1970s, executed in solid beech wood with a beautifully patinated cognac leather seat and backrest, designed in the style of Maison Regain. The chair displays the robust yet refined aesthetic associated with French design of the period and particularly with the work of Maison Regain. Its architectural solid beech frame is characterized by substantial rectangular sections, exposed construction and distinctive X-shaped cross braces along the sides. The warm-toned beech combines beautifully with the thick cognac leather. The leather has developed a rich natural patina over decades of use, with attractive tonal variations, surface markings and signs of age that give the chair considerable depth and authenticity. The combination of solid natural wood, leather and strongly articulated construction gives the piece a distinctly French modernist character, balancing rustic craftsmanship with sculptural geometry. Its compact proportions and strong silhouette make this an appealing occasional or accent chair, equally suitable for a contemporary, modernist, Brutalist or more eclectic interior.
