About the Item
The top rail of this stately Box Bench is boldly scalloped rising to a rounded crest in the center; the bottom rail is straight. Four wide stiles in between frame three plain rectangular raised panels. The integral arms and legs are oak and are straight up to the level of the seat. They are then slightly angled with a gentle scroll at the armrest. Another raised panel fills the frame created. The wide seat lifts on iron strap hinges to reveal a very deep storage well where a single divider makes one small and one large compartment. The seat is secured with its original lock, pressed brass escutcheon plate and replaced key. This imposing piece has a beautiful color and clear wood, hand-polished to a warm honey glow.
