Spanish Colonial Carved Cedar Cabinet, Peru, circa 1930–1940 A substantial Spanish Colonial–style cabinet, made in Peru circa 1930–1940, finely crafted in cedar and presented in a richly darkened finish. The imposing architectural form is distinguished by extensive hand-carved ornament throughout, reflecting the enduring influence of Spanish Colonial furniture traditions in South America. The upper section features two framed doors fitted with turned and carved balusters, creating an openwork effect while maintaining the strong architectural character of the piece. Below, a broad bank of drawers is decorated with linear carved borders and applied scrollwork, while the lower compartment is enclosed by two substantial doors with deeply carved foliate and scrolling ornament. The side panels are equally elaborate, covered with dense carved vegetal decoration arranged within framed architectural divisions. Repeated carved motifs continue across the cornice, vertical stiles, drawer fronts, doors, and substantial stepped plinth, giving the cabinet a remarkably cohesive and richly sculptural appearance. The darkened cedar retains pronounced variation in tone and grain, enhancing the depth of the carving and lending the piece an aged, established character. The combination of turned elements, relief carving, traditional proportions, and substantial construction makes this an especially decorative example of 20th-century Peruvian Colonial Revival furniture. Measuring approximately 173 cm high × 117 cm wide × 63 cm deep, the cabinet offers considerable storage while functioning as a strong architectural accent in a room.
