Florence Knoll is an architect, entrepreneur, decorator, furniture and textile designer. She studied at Canbrook Academy, the Architectural Association of London and the Illinois Institute of Technology, where she studied under Mies van der Rohe. In 1940, she worked in the architecture office of Walter Gropius and Marcel Breuer. From 1943, she collaborated with Hans Knoll who would become her husband. In 1946, they together founded the firm Knoll Associates, which quickly became one of the most important companies of the second half of the 20th century. The company bases its reputation on the quality of materials and technological innovation. Florence Knoll is responsible for several departments. She also creates furniture and signs the interior design of exhibitions or buildings. Other designers working for Knoll include Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen and designers from the Bauhaus. In 1955, when Hans died in a car accident, Florence Knoll took over the management of the company. This was sold four years later to Art Metal Inc...
