A very fine and large French 19th century Louis XV style ormolu-mounted mahogany and kingwood three-drawer bureau plat attributed to Paul Sormani (French-Italian 1817-1877). The shaped rectangular top enclosing a gilt tooled brown leather writing surface within a molded border above a long central drawer enclosing a fine modeled mask of Hercules wearing the Nemean lion pelt centered by flat cast encadrements and rosewood veneered a quatre faces flanked by two short drawers with reticulated escutcheons of scantly clad frolicking putti and doves over gadrooned "C" scrolls, trellis patterned panels on a stylized shell within similarly framed encadrements raised on elegant cabriole legs surmounted by bearded satyr masks ending in acanthus case hairy paw feet beneath sides centering bacchic masks. Lock mechanism stamped W S M, 6068, a key (lacking skeleton key), and 148. Veuve Paul Sormani Et Fils was the widow of the highly esteemed furniture maker Paul Sormani (French-Italian 1817-1877). After his death around 1877 she and her son took over the management of the company continuing the tradition of producing fine French furniture of the highest calibre. An escutcheon and several mounts were examined on the reverse, and each was found to have the bronze master model initials "SJ:. Blue chalk inscription on underside Glle 117, Paris, circa 1880.

Mura low table is created in collaboration with Toronto-based glass design and fabrication atelier Jeff Goodman Studio (JGS). It pairs STACKLAB’s signature solid-bronze Jupiter leg castings with a droplet-shaped top of kiln-fused Temple glass. The table’s name derives from the Japanese word for “unevenness, irregularity, inequality”
Temple glass is a handmade product invented by JGS for the Bahá’í Temple of South America, capable of withstanding the rigorous weather fluctuations and seismic activity of the Andes mountains near Santiago, Chile. In the proprietary fabrication process, rods of glass are broken. The glass fragments are arranged in the kiln bed in JGS’s randomized River Rock pattern, then fired and cooled for a week. This process yields a distinctive mottled motif of milky translucent veils within a transparent field.
The slab is polished, then cut to size with a water jet. Because the glass is handmade, each table top takes three weeks to carve and polish, a process that is impossible to duplicate, making each Mura table unique.
“Our studios share a love of controlled, but partially unknown, outcomes,” says STACKLAB Founder and Creative Director Jeffrey Forrest. “Our disciplined methods allow us to ‘let go’ as we approach the finish line and observe what happens, from a careful arrangement of glass rods settling in the kiln to a computer code interpreting inputs about form.”
“STACKLAB came to us with the idea of shaping the edge of Temple glass with a beautiful ribbon line,” says JGS Executive Director Sylvia Lee. “This is the first piece we’ve done in carved, sculptural Temple glass; earlier applications were always with straight edges. STACKLAB is helping push us into exploring the material more deeply and at a large scale. That’s exciting.”
As for the Jupiter leg, it is a study in creating a completely asymmetrical, yet aesthetically cohesive, geometry. The shape is readily castable, yet differs in every elevation, section and plan view. The sand-casting process produces faintly perceptible irregularities that enhance the leg’s tactile appeal. The planetary name pays homage to the subtitle of Mozart’s last symphony, a favorite of the client who commissioned the first Jupiter table...

An extraordinary fine English victorian marquetry Sycamore, Amboyna, burr-walnut and ormolu-mounted circular tulipwood crossbanding tip-top center table with inlaid decorations depicting wicker baskets full of flowers, vines, butterflies and hummingbirds, in the manner and attributed to Edward Holmes Baldock (1777-1845) after a design by Richard Bridgens, circa London, 1840.

Edward Holmes Baldock (1777-1845) is listed in London Trade Directories of the period in various capacities. He first appears listed at 7 Hanway Street, London in 1805 described as a 'dealer in China and glass' and by 1821 as ' an antique furniture and ornamental furniture dealer'. By 1826 the various facets of the business included 'buying and selling, exchanging and valuing China, cabinets, screens, bronzes etc' Baldock's business seems to have largely involved trading in foreign items and from 1832-1837 he was the purveyor of earthenware and glass to William IV and later purveyor of china to Queen Victoria from 1838 until his death. An important and rare 19th century Period King Charles X Large desk with a Pull out Single wide drawer Mirrored in the manner of partners Desk , Enclosing fitted Eight Columns with incredible Bronze dore work magnificent ormolu capitol of scrolls, foliate. Outstanding light in color and fine in texture Carved Wood. All original hardware and plaques. Mounted on Geometric lower base arched on both sides that allows this magnificent piece to be used as a center table and as a console at the same time, elevating the entirety of this art work of this rare Desk to a category of its own finely chased laurel leaf wreath.

we have seen our fair share of incredible furniture of the 15th to 19th Century periods. this table Desk is incredibly well preserved for its age and use . the fitting work and the design i have rarely encountered any at that level of sophistication and craftsmanship. The result that could only be achieved by big Masters comparable to what was done for the Grande Commande. This type of furniture at that level are mostly kept with the old families, rarely to see them on the market. I have some other high end chateau inventory and rare pieces of the periods as well.
