Rare wall-mounted flip-top three-drawer desk in palisander, brass, and black laminate by Arne Hovmand-Olsen circa 1960, Denmark. This example remains in very good all original vintage condition, with no major losses or flaws to the laminate top and deep and uniform patination to the palisander throughout. No significant oxidation to the brass hinges which also demonstrate a soft glow indicative of decades of gentle treatment by loving hands and no abrasive chemical cleaning. The palisander runners, which are concealed within the carcass of the case until pulled forward to support the extended (flipped) working surface, operate smoothly and tightly and remain in excellent condition. The three dovetailed drawers are also in perfect working condition and their movement is smooth. A coved, sculpted solid palisander gallery provides a classical counterpoint to the otherwise modern, rectilinear form. Subtle functional integrated details throughout such as the recessed finger pulls sculpted in solid palisander prove that this is a midcentury Scandinavian piece with real integrity and intelligent design considerations throughout. This unique piece allows one to take advantage of having of a slick wall mounted console table...
