Oslo Side Table in Walnut
About the Item
The Oslo side table is a versatile design that can serve as a breakfast table in a small kitchen, an end table in a living room, or for playing cards. The woven Danish cord shelf provides storage for books or board games and adds a whimsical touch to its clean modern lines. Made in house at our Los Angeles studio every piece begins with the selection of clear, straight grained walnut boards that are milled on our machinery. Time honored pinned mortise and tenon joinery is cut with a combination of machines and well tuned hand tools then assembled for a product that will last for generations. The piece was finished with an all natural oil and wax blend and the Danish paper cord woven by hand.

West of Noble
West of Noble is a Los Angeles based design practice dedicated to the pursuit of making wooden furniture by hand. It was founded by designer and itinerant woodworker Greg Mitchell in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in 2011, but is inspired by a lifetime of travel, time spent on the sea, various odd jobs, wooden sailboats, and friends and family; without whom the company would not exist. Our designs are guided by the making process, and the unpredictable nature of our chosen material. We aim for the simplest line in each piece, believing it is only finished when there is nothing left to take away.

Light and strong, the Beachcomber Counter Stool evokes the sight of an old wooden single hull; it's lean, sturdy mast together with the rigging worthy of the high seas. Constructed of hand shaped legs and stretchers, each piece is carefully fit and pinned with hardwood pegs and wedges to last for generations, much like the sea craft that inspire them.
For every bar stool, we start with scrupulously chosen lumber; each board must consist of straight grain and have absolutely no defects. This is not just for aesthetics, the clear grain gives the stool its strength. The boards are then milled to dimension and shaped by hand using a combination of machines and time honored hand tools.
