A superb British Art Deco quintetto nest of occasional tables designed by Harry and Lou Epstein, dating to circa 1930 and beautifully crafted in birdseye maple with contrasting walnut detailing. The ingenious composition comprises a substantial central table accompanied by four individual nesting side tables, which fit neatly beneath the main top when not in use. Each incorporates tiered shelving, providing additional practical display or storage space while contributing to the striking architectural quality of the overall design. The ensemble is distinguished by its wonderfully sculptural cloud-shaped profile, a form strongly associated with the glamorous furniture designs of the Art Deco period. The luxurious blonde tones and distinctive figuring of the birdseye maple are subtly contrasted by darker walnut borders and details, emphasising the sweeping curves and geometric construction. When nested together, the five pieces form an impressive sculptural centre table; individually, the smaller tables can be positioned throughout a room as side or occasional tables, making the design exceptionally versatile.
