17th Century Oak Refectory Table, Charles II Period
Located in Lymington, GB
A rare English 17th-century oak refectory table. Charles II period, ca 1675.
The three-plank cleated detachable top is of superb color, figuring and patination.
Raised on six baluster supports united by stretchers.
The frieze is guilloche-carved on all four sides: this demonstrates that this table can be free-standing. Many of these were only carved on three sides.
This versatile refectory table can be used as a hall table, dining table, serving table, or a wonderful kitchen table. A number of early oak pieces which we have sold have harmonized very well with modern interiors.
A similar-sized refectory table (in generally poor condition) sold for £17,000.00 plus buyer's premium, in Duke's auctioneers ATHELHAMPTON HOUSE sale, Puddletown, Dorset, UK, 9th Oct, 2019.
Nb. The turning of the supports on this antique table indicates a development away from an earlier, heavy, carved bulbous leg, to a simpler baluster leg of the later-seventeenth century. However the guilloche-carved frieze is a hint of an earlier period.
Some historic restoration commensurate with 350 years of use.

French 19th Century Walnut Barley Twist Table
Located in Baton Rouge, LA
A splendidly carved French table made in the Carolean/Restoration style of Charles II circa 1830.. The rectangular top showcases the attractive wood grain of the solid walnut, a gorgeous rich brown tone and patina. A single drawer flush with an ornately carved and shaped apron slides easily and has a unique recessed and beautifully aged escutcheon plate. One key is present. The table’s most noticeable feature is the barley or also known as, Solomonic, twist legs that have been masterfully turned and are connected by a spectacular hand-carved stretcher. This phenomenal stretcher is further decorated with beautifully turned finial placed where the supports intersect. The walnut finish gleams with its fresh French wax paste polishing, and will for years to come. Please take a look at the detailed images to get a better view of this unique antique table.

17th Century English Oak Joint Stool / Side Table
Located in Carmine, TX
Joint stool made in England in the late 1600s using oak. This is a beautiful, and old, small stool that shows great proportions and can still be used on a daily basis. The top consists of a single board with ogee edge, that has been repaired with an inset at some time in the past. The apron of the stool is decorated by a simple line carving and the top sits on four turned legs ending with block feet. The box stretcher connecting the legs is very simple and lacks decoration, however, some wear is present where feet have rested over the many years of use.
The stool has a beautiful dark color, accentuated by small nicks and scratches that provide it with depth and character. Little english joint stools are fantastic, they were made to last and are just cute to look at, providing households with both a functional as well as pretty accent piece. Plus, if you have an old cat...
