We are proud to present this extraordinary dressing table: Burlesque. Designed and entirely handmade by our longtime friend Ronan Morrison of Romo Fine Furniture, this exquisite piece is crafted using materials sourced entirely in the UK. Burlesque embodies strength and sophistication, with its bold curves inviting you to immerse yourself in the vibrant colors and hypnotic grain of the Elm burr. Description: While the 4 stacked kidney-shaped layers that make up the body of the table exude solidity, their bold curves soften the piece's overall aesthetic, creating an inviting allure. Subtle overhangs and handle details reveal striking bright interiors crafted from beautiful Rippled Sycamore, featuring contrasting hand-cut dovetails and brass hinges. The mirror, set into a strong brass frame, adds a touch of elegance, complemented by slender Sycamore legs with conical brass fixtures blending seamlessly into the table's underside. Inspiration and Significance: Taking inspiration from Art Deco greats like Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann and Gio Ponti, Burlesque is a celebration of British materials and Irish craftsmanship. Much like the Art Deco movement emerged as a response to post-war austerity, Burlesque stands as a fitting tribute amidst the challenges of emerging from lockdowns and the impact of the virus. Quote from Ronan: "Burlesque was born from my love of the aesthetics of the Art Deco movement but also as a challenge to my skills as a maker. I wanted to challenge myself with curves, layers, and complex processes, using materials that are notoriously difficult to work with. I wanted something that will last long after I do and hopefully for people to enjoy long after I am gone."
