Vintage Persian Qashqai Tribal Room Size Rug in Red, Navy, Ivory, Brown
Located in Barrington, IL
Vintage Persian Qashqai (Ghashghai) Tribal Area Rug, hand-knotted in Southwestern Persia circa the mid-1900s. The Qashqai nomadic tribes are celebrated for their distinctive weaving traditions, producing rugs that are as rich in cultural narrative as they are in beauty and durability. This Qashqai rug showcases a classic traditional tribal design format, centered around a prominent single large medallion that anchors the composition. This central motif is beautifully complemented by four smaller medallions thoughtfully placed within the corner spandrels, creating a harmonious and balanced layout. The vibrant red field color provides a warm and inviting backdrop for the design. The central medallion stands out in a deep dark blue, while the corner spandrels feature a contrasting small medallion in creamy ivory. The palette is further enriched with accents of bold blue, refreshing green, and spirited orange, characteristic of tribal weaves. True to their heritage, Qashqai tribes primarily utilize natural vegetable dyes for their rich hues, with the exception of the vibrant orange color, which often signals a charming, subtle deviation common in mid-century tribal pieces. Woven entirely from all-wool material, this rug offers a soft yet incredibly durable texture, designed to withstand generations of use. Dimensions: 5’ 8” x 8’ 2” Date of Manufacture: 3rd Quarter of the 1900s Place of Origin: Persia Material: Wool pile on a wool foundation with vegetable dyes Condition: Wear consistent with age and use The Persian Knot, SKU: 1348 Qashqai Tribal Rugs, Shiraz Tribal Rug, Tribal Qashqai Carpets, Antique Qashqai Rugs, Antique Qashqai Weaving, Antique Nomadic Bags, Antique Wall Textiles, Qashqai Salt Bags, Qashqai Tribal Bagface, Qashqai Saddlebags, Tribal Persian Rugs, Tribal Persian Weaving, Qashqai Tribal Salt Bags, South Persian Tribes, Qashqai Paisley Rugs, Paisley Rugs, Paisley Carpets...

Ararat Rugs Mamluk Carpet with Cup Motif, Antique Revival Rug, Natural Dyed
Located in Tokyo, JP
The source of the rug comes from the book Renaissance of Islam, Art of the Mamluks, Esin Atil, Smithsonian Institution Press, Washington D.C., 1981 nr.125. This a rug with a cup motif design late 15th-century rug from Mamluk Sultane of Cairo, Egypt. It is exhibited at the Washington D.C. The Textile Museum, R.16.1.2 . The layout of this rug is characteristic of the smaller, almost square Mamluk carpet. A wide border encloses the field, divided into horizontal units consisting of a central square flanked above and below by rectangular panels. The height of the rectangular panels is approximately one-third that of the square and is equal to the width of the border. The corners of the central square are cut into triangles, creating an octagon with green ground. The octagon contains a blue polylobed medallion, which encloses an eight-pointed star with a multipetaled rosette in the core. The area between the star and the lobed medallion has floral motifs springing outward from the arms of the star. The angles of the octagon bear eight isolated and irregular polygons with a red ground; each of these units is adorned with a multipetaled rosette enclosed by a square with papyrus motifs springing from its sides and corners. The field of the octagon is filled with similar papyrus sprays, some of which appear to grow from the eight stemmed cups placed between the polygons. The triangles in the corner bear a checkerboard pattern with a stylized lotus blossom (or fleur-de-lis) in each segment. The compositional layout of the rug is reminiscent of the illuminated frontispieces, which reveal similar proportions and internal divisions. Radiating designs of geometric components filled with floral motifs are a characteristic feature of Mamluk art...

This versatile Kurdish rug features a captivating geometric pattern that unfolds gracefully across its field. The central design is defined by a striking series of seven small medallions arranged in a single column, creating a strong visual anchor. The main field itself presents a harmonious interplay of deep blue and warm rust colors, providing a rich and inviting backdrop for the intricate motifs. This rug's wonderful design is further enhanced by the expert use of natural vegetable dyes. These organic pigments not only provide brilliant, saturated colors but also develop a beautiful patina and subtle tonal variations (abrash) over time, a hallmark of authentic village weavings that only adds to their beauty and character. The entire composition is elegantly framed by multiple borders, each displaying their own beautiful colors and intricate geometric designs. These layered borders provide depth and sophistication, perfectly complementing the central field and completing this charming village carpet from the early 1900s.
