About the Item

Original artwork used to create the British front of house stills. Gouache on artboard. This original artwork features the films scene where Pinocchio is under the sea. Exceptionally rare. Original artworks rarely surface, as the majority were destroyed. Pieces on the Classic Disney films are always highly prized. This original artwork only recently surfaced, and was previously owned by an English lady, who had been given this piece in the 1940s. Prior to this discovery no other Pinocchio artwork for posters or front of house stills had been seen. Walt Disney's second animated feature film was made after the success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, (1937). Pinocchio, the world’s most famous wooden puppet, is originally the creation of the Italian writer and social commentator Carlo Collodi. Entitled The Adventures of Pinocchio, the story was initially serialized in the children’s section of a Roman newspaper and, following its popularity, became a book in 1883. When Walt Disney decided to adapt the story to film, Pinocchio had already climbed to widespread fame, but it was not until he was animated that the naughty wooden boy truly became embedded in the popular imagination. The size given is before framing, the framed size is 20 1/2 x 25 1/2 in. (52 x 64.8 cm) This artwork is conservation framed with UV plexiglass in a Sapele wood frame with a card mount.

Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket, 1940, Lobbycard
Located in Cologne, DE
This vintage lobby card features a classic scene from Walt Disney's Pinocchio, the beloved 1940 animated film. The image shows Pinocchio, the wooden puppet boy, sitting on the floor, his wide eyes fixed in curiosity as he gazes at his tiny, talking companion, Jiminy Cricket. The two characters share a moment of interaction in the workshop where Pinocchio was crafted. The background shows wooden shavings scattered on the floor, a tool, and a jar, adding to the handmade, rustic atmosphere. Pinocchio's signature bright red shorts, blue bow tie, and yellow hat are clearly visible, emphasizing his playful and innocent appearance. Jiminy Cricket, perched on a piece of wood, adds charm and guidance to the scene with his small but prominent presence. The lobby card measures 35.5 cm by 26.4 cm, and it includes the iconic logo, "Walt Disney’s Pinocchio" in bold lettering, along with "Technicolor" to highlight the vibrant color of the animated film. This card, which would have been displayed in theaters to promote the film, captures the magic and heart of the movie, making it a timeless piece of Disney memorabilia.
