About the Item

Vintage Latin American School Blue & Black Abstract Monotype by Ricardo de Silva Abstract Monotype by Ricardo (Richard) de Silva ( Rick De Silva) (Brazil/American, 20th C), 1988. This piece is a monoprint - it was painted on a panel or glass pane and then pressed into the paper through cheesecloth. It is composed of two sections, with the central one being Prussian Blue that is suspended over what could be an abstracted figure, and to the center right is a black splotch that could be a face in profile. These are all laid down on a background of varying grainy gray and white tones creating a balanced and pleasing composition. DeSilva was born in Brazil and grew up in Los Angeles. He was a gallery owner, first in Santa Barbara in the 1960's and 70's, then in San Jose in the 1980-2000s. He was dedicated to promoting the work of talented upcoming artists, including Kogyo and Hasui Kiyochika, Robert Frame, Jim Stuckenberg, Alice Robertson Carr, Deborah Eve Alastra, Russell Kelly, and Diana Mark.
