About the Item

In this work, Anna Shesterikova addresses an ancient and almost mythological tradition of Nepal—the cult of the living goddess Kumari. At the center of the composition is a girl chosen to become the incarnation of the goddess Taleju. The small figure sits motionless and majestic on a throne, as if trapped between two worlds—childhood and divinity. The heroine's face is calm and almost emotionless. Her gaze is direct and profound, and on her forehead glows a fiery "all-seeing eye"—a tika, a symbol of divine power. The richly decorated crown, red robes with gold ornaments, and heavy silver jewelry create a solemn and sacred image. However, behind this pomp, one can discern the fragility of a child's soul, forced to accept the role destined by ancient tradition. The artist's painting style combines decorative richness and emotional depth. The warm palette of red, gold, and ochre hues echoes the ritual symbolism of Hindu temples, while the textured paintwork lends the painting's surface a special materiality, reminiscent of ancient reliefs and temple frescoes. In this work, the artist explores a subtle and philosophical theme: where is the line between the sacred and the human? The viewer sees a child whose destiny is temporarily exalted to the heavens. But what will the girl's return to ordinary, worldly life be like? The painting becomes a reflection on childhood, faith, and cultural traditions. The portraits from the "Children of the World" series are a truly creative and simultaneously research project by the artist Shesterikova. She poses more questions than answers. And the main question that runs through each painting is: to what extent are the ancient traditions, beliefs, and foundations that have allowed humanity to survive for millennia relevant and humane today? What is more important: preserving unique cultures or creating better living conditions for new generations? The painting is ready to hang on the wall and comes with hooks and cord. The sides are painted dark. The gallery presents the Swiss artist Anna Shesterikova, a highly professional artist who has been working in the international art market for many years. From the "Children of the World" series. In this expressive work, the artist explores the theme of cultural memory and feminine strength, embodied in the image of the young heroine. Sunlight softly reflects off the metal coins on the girl's chest ornament, transforming them into shimmering reflections. The painting's theme is connected to the traditional Chuvash spring festival of Akatuy. Today is a special day for the young Chuvash girl Asya: she will be participating for the first time in an ancient festive rite—a girls' round dance. She is dressed in a festive chalkha costume made of white fabric, adorned with scarlet and dark blue embroidery. The geometric patterns harken back to ancient symbols of fertility, the sun, water, and feminine power. On her chest is a bib covered with coins and metal plates that ring like small bells when moved. The tall, conical headdress, called a tukhya, reminiscent of an ancient helmet...
