This translucent olive-green band ring was hand-carved from natural and untreated nephrite jade. The ring is a size 8 ¾. The luminous band has a high-polish outside, a matt-finish on the interior. This pair of mid-century jade "Mother/Daughter" rings is unspeakably rare. Created side-by-side in the 1970s in Singapore, these magnificent rings have always been together and are now being offered together as a pair. Each ring has was hand-fabricated in 18K white gold with 18K yellow gold accents below and surrounding the stone. Small, bright diamonds encircle each stone and dress the split-shoulders of each band in two rows. Each ring also features a breathtaking oval cabochon of glassy emerald-green jade that is highly translucent and evenly toned. One stone measures 12.52mm x 9.60mm x 4.63mm and weighs 4.27 carats; the second jade stone measures 11.88mm x 9.39mm x 5.10mm and weighs 4.42 carats. The interior of each band is inscribed with each jade gemstone's weight. The two stones are individually certified by AIGS to be untreated Jadeite from Burma and the rings ship with these two individual certificates. Or just the ring you buy yourself because you require a bump of happiness. However, I have always envisioned this along with one of the other two carved jade bands I am listing as being Could you really wear a wedding band carved from Jadeite jade every day? Just like an ordinary gold wedding band? To answer that question, I must first introduce you to Mr. Carl Friedrich Christian Mohs, a German mineralogist who picked-up where the ancient Greeks and Romans left off with respect to classifying minerals based on their relative hardness. A diamond could scratch everything but nothing could scratch a diamond, so diamond would represent "10" on what is today known as Mohs scale of mineral hardness or just the Mohs scale for short. Talc is a clay mineral that every other mineral can scratch so it's a "1." Gold is a 2.5 and jadeite jade is between a 6.5 and 7. So the jade ring would be significantly less prone to being scratched. Which explains why the nearly century-old carved jadeite saddle ring I have in my store shows no evidence of scratching or even wear on the rear of the band.
