About the Item

This very simple sterling silver tea-strainer was manufactured in London by Peter & Ann Bateman of the famed Bateman family. The strainer is very simple in its construction and features two 'handles' allowing it to sit over a cup without it being held. To one of these handles is a simple monogram 'SL' which was likely the original owner's initials. The strainer has crisp London hallmarks for manufacture in 1797, during the reign of George III. Hallmarked for manufacture by Peter & Ann Bateman of the famed Bateman silversmithing family, the piece is just as useable today as it was in the 18th Century and presents in lovely antique condition. Marked - London hallmarks for manufacture in 1797 & maker's mark for Peter & Ann Bateman Measures - 12cm W (handle to handle) x 3cm H Total weight of piece - 49.5 grams
