Large Salvador Dalí Surrealist Textile Panel with Lions, 180 × 140 cm
Large Salvador Dalí Surrealist Textile Panel with Lions, 180 × 140 cm

Large Salvador Dalí Surrealist Textile Panel with Lions, 180 × 140 cm

Located in Madrid, ES

An impressive large-scale textile work by Salvador Dalí (1904–1989), featuring a characteristically enigmatic Surrealist composition with two monumental lions, a female figure and a distant architectural landscape. The composition unfolds across an immense dreamlike space dominated by two reclining lions facing one another. In the foreground, a mysterious female figure, viewed from behind and dressed in a voluminous coral-red gown, advances toward the animals while holding a slender staff or flower. Beyond the lions rises the silhouette of a fantastical fortified city, while sharply receding perspective lines draw the viewer toward the distant horizon. Dalí further disrupts the conventional landscape through floating forms, sweeping linear elements and seemingly spontaneous graphic interventions in the sky, creating the sense of an imagined world suspended between reality and dream. The dramatic difference in scale between the woman, the enormous animals and the distant architecture is particularly characteristic of Dalí's Surrealist visual vocabulary, transforming an apparently recognizable landscape into an enigmatic psychological space. Executed as a woven textile, the work translates the delicacy of Dalí's drawing and graphic language into a richly textured decorative medium. The restrained background contrasts beautifully with the warm golden tones of the lions and the vivid coral-red dress of the central figure. The composition bears the Salvador Dalí signature in the lower right. With its unusually large dimensions of 180 × 140 cm (70.9 × 55.1 in.), the textile has considerable wall presence and functions as both a work of Surrealist art and a highly decorative large-scale textile. A remarkable statement piece combining Dalí's distinctive dream imagery, monumental animal symbolism, theatrical perspective and fantastical architecture. Artist: Salvador Dalí (1904–1989) Origin: Spain Style: Surrealism Material: Woven Textile Signature: Salvador Dalí, lower right Dimensions Width: 70.9 in. (180 cm) Height: 55.1 in. (140 cm) Condition Good vintage condition. The textile presents folds, creases and minor signs of age and storage, visible in the photographs. Please refer carefully to the images for a detailed assessment of condition. Keywords: Salvador Dalí, Dalí Textile, Salvador Dalí Tapestry...

19th Century Russian Icon of the Virgin and Child
19th Century Russian Icon of the Virgin and Child

19th Century Russian Icon of the Virgin and Child

Located in Madrid, ES

Beautiful Russian icon of the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child, painted and gilded during the 19th century. Rich in spiritual significance and devotional character, this icon represents one of the most beloved subjects of Eastern Orthodox religious art. The composition depicts the Virgin Mary (Theotokos) tenderly holding the infant Jesus in her arms, emphasizing her role as the Mother of God and intercessor for humanity. The serene expressions, solemn gaze, and sacred intimacy between mother and child reflect the profound symbolism and theological depth characteristic of Russian iconography. Executed in oil and enhanced with gilded decoration, the icon displays the traditional artistic conventions of Orthodox painting, including stylized features, symbolic colors, and a luminous golden background that evokes the divine realm. The gilding beautifully complements the painted surface, creating a rich visual effect and enhancing the devotional presence of the work. Produced during the 19th century, a period of continued flourishing of icon painting in the Russian Empire, this piece would have served as an object of private devotion or as part of a domestic icon corner, a central element of Orthodox spiritual life. Its intimate dimensions make it ideal for display in a collection of religious art, iconography, devotional objects, or Eastern European antiques...
