Single-Pendant Chainmail Droplet Sculptural Chandelier 60 cm
By Maika Palazuelos
Located in Ciudad de México, CDMX
Single Pendant Chainmail Droplet Sculptural Chandelier is a beautiful hand made light piece. A chainmail web hugs the lamp’s canopy, as the knit gets tighter the chainmail envelopes into a rope which hangs to finally suspend a glass globe. All the while the lamp’s warm light source remains hidden. In Chainmail Droplet Chandelier there is an evident contradiction between material and form as the chainmail takes on an organic cocoon like appearance. When conceiving the first piece in this collection; I sought to create a design that supported the idea of a body that is open to different forms of expression; ultimately seeking to express and question our wish for constraint. An object that through industrial materials knits into a soft light nest...

Mercury Table Lamp by Odilon Avalos
By Odilon Avalos
Located in Mexico City, CDMX
Circa 1950. We offer this fantastic and hard to find Mercury Table Lamp by Odilon Avalos. Totally handmade. About Odilón Ávalos Razo: Descendant of a family of glass workers, Odilón Ávalos Razo, was born in Puebla in 1881. He came to Guadalajara attracted by the economic and Industrial development that characterized the city in the last decades of the Porfiriato, especially during the governments of Ramón Corona and Luis C. Curiel. Odilón was the introducer of an industry that today is representative of the crafts of Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, the industry of blown glass, brought to Guadalajara in 1903, by this artist of glass. In Guadalajara he started his workshop in front of the garden of Analco, and later moved it to the street of Catalán, current Avenida Revolución. One of Odilón's hobbies was to create extraordinary and fantastic pieces. However, for years it rarely transpired to the public some of his works, because they used to model them in private and then place them on the shelves of a high room that he kept closed, almost in secret, where he used to go, perhaps, to admire himself the beauty of his creation. In the year of 1954, the Government of the State of Jalisco, granted Don Odilón Ávalos, the highest award that pays tribute and is dedicated to artists: "The Jalisco Prize." Even when this encouragement of his adoption status, he was granted time after the recognitions he received at the New York and Seville fairs. In the latter, he received a very special greeting from King Alfonso XIII...

This notion has clung to me since my childhood, an obsession woven into the very fabric of my existence. Within these pieces, I strive to distill the essence of a potential "architecture of the future," a concept elegantly defined by my compatriot Carlos Nuñez, a visionary curator hailing from Chile. Some of these creations speak to catastrophic events of an architectural nature, where the implosion of structures adorned with sinewy metal beams and expansive windows becomes suspended in the tides of time.
