A great grandmother married to the last Tsars cousin, presented to King George V, King Edward VII, Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra and regularly dined with the infamous Rasputin. Her father supplied jewels the size of reptilian eggs from his mines in the Ural Mountains to the royal family and the most renowned Russian jewellers. She fled the empire at the height of the revolution with her treasured newborn daughter hidden in a wicker basket. The jewels of renowned craftsmen including Faberge, once worn as she glittered across Russian and European palaces were concealed, woven intricately into her undergarments. Their journey took them a world away to Shanghai where a new name and birth certificate ensured obscurity, distancing them from the terrors of the fall of the Russian empire. However, it would not be until years later after pirates, wars and insurmountable loss, that they would settle in Australia. Crafted from 18 karat yellow gold this ring is from one of Cartier's most iconic collections, 'Love'. Originally designed by Aldo Cipullo in 1969 first as the 'Love' bracelet, the range has since grown to encompass earrings, rings, bracelets and neckwear. This relatively modern iteration of the 'Love' ring was probably crafted during the 21st Century and is an unusually large ring size, suitable for men, or ladies with a larger finger size. The original 'Love' bangle was designed in two parts with screws that locked the piece onto the wearer's arm, similar to how a chastity belt functioned, with the idea that the spouse would retain the screwdriver that could remove the piece, in essence locking their loved one to them. These Love bands have become a cult classic and are often worn by men and women globally as wedding bands. This exquisite desk object was crafted in France during the early 20th Century and would have been an impressive object to own. The desk seal is crafted from a cigar shaped piece of black onyx which features a diamond set collar to one end and a monogram intaglio 'seal' to the other, all circa 1915. The monogram is 'AMF' which has been beautifully engraved into the underside of the seal. The piece retains its original Morocco leather fitted box signed 'Appay', a French manufacturer, and embossed 'AMF' to the top of the lid.
