An early 20th century carved bench from Chaozhou city, Guangdong province, China. This was originally the base of a daybed, however the rest of the bed was damaged or missing. The front carving and some parts of the framework were still in good condition, and hence they were salvaged and restored and modified to a smaller size, and now can be used as a bench or a low console. As with many pieces from Chaozhou, the carvings are very dramatic, 3-dimensional and detailed, and this one is no exception.
