Boxwood

Family Home by G. P. Schafer Architect in Nashville

GPSA completely reconstructed this Charles Platt-designed, Georgian style residence outside of Nashville, known as Boxwood, for a young family who wanted to return the property to its original, classic elegance after substantial alterations to the exterior and interior made in the 1950’s and again in the 1990’s. Reworking the entire house, GPSA reintroduced the original French doors out into the garden, redesigned the 1950’s entry portico, and created natural connections between the living and dining rooms at one end of the house and the relaxed family spaces near the kitchen at the other to ensure that all rooms would be lived in and enjoyed. GPSA worked in close collaboration with landscape architect Gavin Duke and interior decorator David Netto on the new design, which honors Platt’s original house while introducing a fresh sensibility suited to a vibrant, 21st century family.
