French Modern Townhouse

Family Home by Peter Pennoyer Architects in New York, NY

Behind a historic neoclassical limestone facade, Peter Pennoyer Architects rebuilt this townhouse, employing sleek classical architecture that becomes increasingly light as the rooms rise through the house. The layout is formal but wide pocket doors and book-lined sitting areas carved out of the landings of the elliptical stair create the spirit of an open and relaxed floor plan. Two penthouse levels are expressed as a modernist addition and one contains a minimalist black and white music room lit by a skylight and with French doors on three sides. Victoria Hagan’s decoration with neutral colors and her mixing of contemporary and classical furniture amplify the modern traditional architecture.
