The house is a rare surviving example of California Spanish Deco architecture, designed and built by Lyle Nelson Barcume in 1932, with elaborate tile work and shaped plaster details. By ebonizing the oak floors and whitewashing most of the unadorned plaster surfaces with soft white paint we were able to create a sympathetic envelope for the clients' existing collection of late 20th Century pieces. We added new bookshelves inspired by the library of the Villa di Granaiolo near Florence, lighting and furniture by Luigi Caccia Dominioni and textiles and carpets in vibrant complementary colors.
