Vacation Home by Dan Scotti Design in East Hampton, NY

This 8,000 square foot home is located in the estate section of East Hampton and serves as a place for family and friends to gather during the summer months and on holiday weekends throughout the year. Dan Scotti designed the interiors, oversaw construction of the home itself, and collaborated on the architectural plans. The home is indicative of Scotti’s signature design aesthetic, which is defined by a combination of neutral tones, clean lines, luxurious textiles, mid-century furnishings, vintage industrial lighting and found objects. One of Scotti’s primary goals with this new-construction project was to create large spaces where the family could spend time together, while at the same time capturing the warmth and character of an older estate home. He designed a large kitchen with high ceilings and tons of natural light; but in order to make the large space feel relaxed and cozy, he hand brushed and repeatedly sanded the upper walls and ceiling to create a chalky, driftwood-like texture. A custom walnut breakfast table and vintage Eames side chairs were placed at the center of the space. In the cocoon-like media room, Scotti used a dark, high gloss ceiling, custom cashmere sectional sofa and vintage Lunel wall sconces. In the master bedroom, a chunky mohair rug is paired with a Widdicomb desk, Jeanneret armchair, and custom upholstered bed. For the dining room, Scotti paired a custom dining table and hand-knotted area rug with a Lindsey Adelman pendant fixture and a 1950’s Darrell Landrum console. Throughout the home, Scotti installed reclaimed oak flooring, vintage lighting, and repurposed vintage industrial hardware. In the mudroom, vintage bronze door handles now serve as great looking hooks for jackets and dog leashes. Scotti’s sophisticated color palette, contrasting textures, and mix of mid-century furniture, vintage lighting and accessories together create living spaces that are clean and modern, yet warm and inviting.
