LA CASA BEA

Family Home by Luisfern5 Creative Design Agency in Beverly Hills, CA

When architect Luis Fernandez first saw this house, slightly frayed by the years and the California sun, but intact in its perfect modernist proportions, lines and its citing in nature, he found a dream project.

Named after its last owner, LA CASA BEA is A MID-CENTURY MODERN house in Beverly Hills, mostly untouched since 1962 when it was originally designed by Peter Kamnitzer and Donald Aris Peart. It is a home with an interesting past: it was television personality Alex Trebek’s first house and his primary residence for nearly 18 years.

Luis wanted to maintain and honor the Mid-Century Modern sensibility towards light,

materials, and indoor-outdoor living, while updating it for today’s style and functionality of modern living.

The project called for a full update of the infrastructure, stripping it down to the studs

while preserving the structure and some of the materials and finishes from the original

house. The new design attentively respects the proportions of the original, while cleverly

reconfiguring layouts to open and maximize space flow. In tandem, he conceived the

landscaping and outdoor spaces along with the architecture to further emphasize the dreamy California location.

Luis gave special emphasis on updating the layout and functionality of the spaces.

The interior design of the spaces is where Luis balances a modernist feel with

contemporary art, sculpture and warm materials, blending vintage iconic furniture pieces and lighting fixtures with commissioned modern pieces. The design vibe pays tribute to the house’s California Mid-Century Modern heritage while makes it feel light, fresh and chic.
