Lore Bistro

Restaurant by Marit Ilison Creative Atelier in Tallinn, EE

Lore is a family-friendly community bistro at Kai Art Centre in Noblessner Port, Tallinn. Lore was created from “scratch” into an old Noblessner factory’s vessel systems department. The building, which is a national heritage site, was restored and renovated in 2019.

For the interior, Marit aimed to honor the old space yet create a cosy, warm, and welcoming atmosphere, where one can find different textures, colors, and surfaces to be visually enjoyed next to the food and service. Warm-hued tiles, wood, and soft velvets are combined with old rustic walls and industrial ceiling machinery, bringing together old and new.

The space offers several different spots with different designs, so customers always have something new or different to experience. A custom-designed U-shaped service cupboard seamlessly unites two halls yet allows an opportunity to separate spaces with a curtain and keep the area for service on both sides. A double-sided fireplace with an elaborate facade brings warmth to the atmosphere and has become the signature element of the bistro. All furniture was designed by Marit Ilison and custom-made for Lore Bistro.
